Would a 300bhp S1 rs turbo see off a 550bhp ecsort cossie?

Someone i know offered me a duel and is litterally daring me to challenge him in his 550bhp escort cossie.i have not been in it but a few mates have told me it is super quick. i am more than sure it would do me at any lights so was thinking that once both cars were rolling would my car be quicker upto say 150mph or would the cossie be?
its a hard one and i dont really want to take on the challenge if its a one sided event!
i have driven a 350bhp cossie and was not 1 bit impressed with that so i was wondering if a 550bhp would be just too much for a 300bhp rst?

hard to say, depending on grip the cossie would probably be hitting a ton in about 8 seconds! ive been in a 275bhp rs16i that has been known to sit on the bumpers of a murcialago tho so who knows. only one way to find out i suppose and thats to try!

No chance, the 550bhp escos will absolutely fuck all over you
Two cars I have recently driven:
Doug Stirlings Escort Cosworth - 530bhp
Rob Twitchells stripped Astra mk2 - 400bhp
0-60 - Escos by a mile
60-120 - Not a lot in it
120 + Escos by a bit
Thats a 400bhp astra mk2, which is probably lighter than your car and is a 100bhp more, and the escos still beats that comfortably in most circumstances, yours wouldnt stand a chance anywhere at all, you'd get beaten by a bit in the midrange where its all about power to weight (ie 60-120) and you would get beaten by a lot in the first couple of gears where its about grip, and would get beaten by a lot in 5th where its all about power overcoming aerodynamics.
So race him on a dual carriageway from a rolling start through 3rd and 4th, ie from at about 60mph upto about 120 and at least you will only get beaten by a bit not totally slaughtered and humiliated like you will if its from a standing start or over a big distance.

Have to agree with chip mate, as much as i love rst's you don't really stand any chance if the cossie IS 550bhp! A 300bhp rst is a bloody fast car don't get me wrong but a 550bhp cossie is a very very quick car in reality, as said there are certain circumstances where you won't get embarrassed at all but the sort of race you'll prolly have down a duel carriageway or somethin there will be only one outcome sadly....
Have a go anyway, no point wondering about these things when you could be out there actually doing it! Big deal if you loose, just a bit of fun innit?
You never know, the Cos may be down on power/have pub spec figures/rubbish driver/blow up

That isnt good enough to beat a 550bhp escos, which will do it in sub 5, so the person you raced must have missed a gear or something.

Guys lets get something clear i am not doing no 0-60 against any 4wd car in my rst as it not going to happen!
i have seen cossies RR graph and one thing i noticed that the power is been made at 4500rpm +, below this the car isn't making anything!
my car is producing most of its power between 3500rpm - 6500rpm + i run anti-lag which gets the turbo starting earlier.
i am only talking rolling starts!
all this 0-60 business is pure traffic light grand prix and i would not be inclinded to try that.
also to add to the factors are that it has a beefier diff which weighs so much more than the cossie one, bigger wheels 18's, a complete ice setup, plus so many extra add-ons its unreal!
I have already been in the car when it was 350bhp and it was whatless to say the least!

Is that what you want people to say
We did this at MAD along time ago. In low boost (330bhp) a 260bhp RST was able to stay with but not catch the 330 Cossie, when i hit the high Boost switch (504bhp) the RST was left totally for dead. Look at the facts a 550bhp can reach 186mph at Brunters (MADAde) in a straight drag an RST with way over 300bhp cant reach 170mph in that distance, you seem to have no idea of the performance difference with an extra 200bhp.
You quote your RST as 60-100 in 5.8. At totb eliminators years back Performance Ford recorded 60-100 in 3.6 for mine with 500bhp & without 4x4.

550bhp escos = very quick car
The difference is night and day, as much as between a 180bhp run of the mill stage 1 chipped RST and a 300bhp one!

I think i might leave it! don't really want to race something that is going to be a different league to mine! a bit dissapointed though! thanks for all the comments.
Mines running best part of 300bhp and as much as the cars a great laugh and certainly no sloutch there is no way i would take on a 550 cossie..
I gone against for highpowered evos but not 500 +
BUT saying that i would like to know what the difference is between them
