Default Focus ST

Had my first shot of a Focus ST yesterday, 08 plate with Bluefin and few other small mods, driver told me it was putting out 310bhp @ the wheels.

Best I was hoping for was to be the passenger, but he let me take it out on my own with his cousin (female) as the passenger.

I was like a kid at Xmas to say the least! I was meant to just be driving home from her house (1 mile) but as soon as i got behind the wheel, I had other ideas!

Never really had a go of a big powered car really, been in Cossie's and Scooby's as the passenger before, but always wanted a go myself. My dad's got a BMW 323, which is probably the fastest car I've driven until yesterday.

Only having driven lesser powered RST's before, I was quite surprised by the lack of how much you could feel the tubo kicking in, it all just felt so gradual, but fuck me it could shift!!

Also quite surprised how easy it was to cope with as well, I expected the front wheels to be spinning everywhere!

I used up 9 miles of petrol in the space of about 2 or 3 miles max. The lass in the passenger seat was shitting herself, lol.

Was great fun! Loved it, but still think I'd prefer a Sapph Cossie!!

Also, caught a glimpse of my first Focus RS. Passed it outside my work, was a green one. What a stunning car it is in the flesh!

I don't know what they do standard so couldnt really question him?

Did expect it to be a lot more wild with that amount of power.

310atw? No wonder it was rapid!

Likewise, I had a shot of my mates Astra VXR last weekend, been in it loads as a passenger but never driven it. Just standard but it was alot quicker than I expected to be honest. Lovely car too.

Well he did say there was more than a few things done to it, never asked for a look under the bonnet though - silly me!!

Don't the Bluefin make a big difference?

Mate of mine has had a few MR2 Turbo's in the past year or so, one running 280bhp, another running 325bhp ATW, and the Focus definitely didn't feel shy of them.

He DID mention a bigger turbo right enough, but I can't remember if he said that was next or was the latest thing he got.

Only met the guy on Saturday night so don't know if he's full of shit or not, but when were yapping about cars, he did seem pretty clued up on, especially on Fordy's.

What's the ST putting out standard?
Don't they come with different engine sizes? No sure what the engine size was - I was just too excited to talk, lol

That car will be 270bhp/320lbs max, you are right they are quick. most with a remap and induction, intercooler, turbo back exhaust will do 290/300 depending on whos dyno you want to believe.
Don't bother with the bigger turbo, they arent that much quicker for the extra outlay.

St's standard are 223/5 ish..

Without the hybrid turbo conversion you will be lucky to break 310bhp mark, tho it does depend on who's dyno it runs on and how it feels that day!!

my brother in law has a ST, with a bigger intercooler, air filter, exhaust and bluefin it did 304bhp at the fly, very differant in the power delivery to my cossie, very nice car though

Aye the delivery is definitely a lot different to what I expected, I much prefer when you can really feel the turbo kicking in, although I guess there is less lag in the ST than an older ERST or Cossie

its a smaller turbo on a larger capacity engine so the "lag" is very minimal

I was too when I test drove one. I had my Mondeo ST TDCi (RR'ed @ 160bhp / 300ft.lb standard) and I didnt think that the Focus ST was quicker, actually thought it was slower. Then I looked at the speedo. Aaaahhhhh no. I was quicker, a lot quicker. The boost in the Focus is in 2 stages I think where the Mondeo its all at 1750rpm. The Mondeo would push you right to the back of the seat where the Focus doesnt, its more relentless.

been in a focus st,was standard 225bhp as the guy had only just bought it,did feel really smooth on the delivery and quite rapid.
had a guy the other week in a mercury grey rst, same colour as mine, asked him what hed done to it,and he said standard 170bhp rst engine lol i then asked how much boost and he said 5psi,either he thought i didnt have a clue,or he just didnt have a clue, which is why i never said anything bout his "standard" engine lol

310 at the flywheel on a bluefin stage 3 sounds about right They are really good cars and when tuned they pull really well. I have a Sapphire Cosworth and an ST and they both drive completely differently, the focus handles much better and in a straight line the Cosworth is quicker
