take it to a local engineering shop they will have a proper parts washer and will properly only charge you a few quid to use it...

I do wet media blasting at work mate, I see your not a million miles away from me, so if you want any bits blasting give me a shout - it'll bring them up like new

I personally wouldn't do the block, the machine uses plastic sand and soapy water at 7bar of pressure, the oil ways will fill with the plastic media, although it should all wash out I wouldn't want to risk it as just leaving a few grains behind can write off an engine. It has happened in the past!!
But as for other bits such as pulleys, brackets, engine mounts, cam cover etc then no problem at all
