is this a new phone completley or is it the upgrade for the new i phone ??? i just got a i phone on contract and they assured me there wasnt going to be a new phone just an upgrade if not im gonna be pissed and demand they sort this out ??????
i'll be able to get one in august, when my 16gb contract run's out, but probably wont, dont use the camera other than for quick snaps, battery life is ok for a day or 2 if not used constant, so its perfect for me.
best phone i've had by far.!

iam going to switch my contract to business which will then allow me to upgrade to the 3GS as i currently only done 10 months on my 18 month contract. Get the 32GB 3GS for £275, wack my old iphone 3G 16gb on ebay for £250
I wanted to see a bit more from the new model, especially looks wise, but around twice the processing speed and ram should make it a lot quicker and less stressful to use. Also the camera and video look really well implemented.
I'm going to upgrade, but only because I've broken the dock connector on my current one so it won't sync!

I agree, and to charge £100 extra for the 32gig model is a joke when the cost of the memory itself must be about a fiver these days. Not to mention their $1 to £1 conversions on the price as always.
I also think that with this being a fairly minor update means this time next year will see a big change/update for the iPhone.

I have been following this new iphione 'story' for ages, and when i saw yesterday the new iphone... well, lets just say I was disappointed. All this hype, and for what - a slightly better pixel rating.... woohoo! lol
The new iphone 3GS (s for speed) has just been designed around a bigger ram so that apps open up quicker..... but to be fair, if ya just remove alot of the crap apps you have still on ya iphone 3G, your original iphone will be just as quick. It has already been report on numerous sites that the ram wont come into its own until such time as you have filled all 32GB of memory.... now who is gonna do that?
So lets just take away the ram and the additional pixels and what do we have..... a 3G with the 3.0 firmware. Sorted
The money that it is costing at the minute will drop down in a couple of months anyway. Apple just want as much money from the impatient iGeeks as possible. Once the initial 'urge' has gone, so will that horrendous price tag!
The 3.0 software on a 3G is seriously sufficient enough to pass anyones concerns. And if the video camera is really that much of a concern, just JB it. Ive run video recording on my 3G for ages!
If the 3G was so 'old news' Apple would not have used it to present the 3.0 upgrade all that time ago. The 3GS is simply a 3G with better camera and with the 3.0 built in as standard.
Roll on June 17th tho as I will definately be upgrading my firmware and also jailbreaking it straight after.... Don't you just love crooked beta testers

Just thought... Is the TomTom part of the Compass Hardware, or simply runs off the OS's GPS like xGPS on jailbreak?
No mention of Apple accepting Macromedia's flash player yet either

even JB'd phones cant run flash properly. Yes it has mobilecinema, or whatever its called, but thats not really that good is it.
As far as im aware, Apple made macromedias life a living hell when discussing flashplayer. Macromedia basically told apple to stick it. BUT... Apple also told TOMTOM and GARMIN that they would never allow an app from them due to the iphone already running shitty google maps..... in 3.0, thats changed
No mention of flash as yet, but who knows... not all features were discussed at WWDC anyway.

I'm not excited enough about the 3Gs to upgrade my current 3G for one, I was kind of hoping for a matte black finish and an illuminated Apple logo. Looking forward to OS 3.0 though, that'll be awesome. Just got my new MacBook Pro earlier too, it's like an Apple christmas..!
The illuminating apple logo would be like putting neons under a cosworth... you just wouldn't do it! The matt black finish would have been a decent addition tho as would the rumoured OLED Touch Screen. Seems all they did there was add a 'fingerprintless' layer to the original screen.
If grip and fingerless stuff is all thats needed, simply get hold of the invisishield from CarPhoneWarehouse for £15... does what it says on the box!

Hardly!
I thought it would have been quite smart and I think it would have sold handsets because right now there is no way of telling if it's the 3G or the 3Gs, most people wanting an iPhone right now will end up buying a 3G at the discounted price.
