Afternoon People!
Afternoon - I've just registered on the forum, so thought it best to introduce myself
I'm Nick, 19 years old from Lincoln shire. Pretty much a total petrol head and have been for years!
I currently own a 106 XSi which is sat on my drive with no engine! I previously owned an S1 rallye which i stuck a 106gti engine in with S1 box, peugeot sport dampers. basically a fast road set-up.
I've just built up a decent spec gti engine for the xsi (cam's, gasflowed head, lightened and balanced, KMS standalone management) But over the past few months i've pretty much lost interest in the car
i've always been a big lover of RS turbos (even though im french through and through at heart!) As when i was younger my best friend's dad had an S1 ERST as a track car with a naturally aspriated YB!
I'm looking at selling up my current project and getting myself either an S1 or S2 rs turbo. I'd love an S1 but with the growing rarirty and the fact i'd be using it everyday i'm straying towards the S2.
I'm just looking for a few peoples opinions on the car, What they are like to drive as apposed to 106's (if anyone has previous experience) A friend has just bought a Mk3 fiesta RS turbo and this has what's tipped me over the edge, i just have to have one!
I'm up in lincolnshire, would love to come and have a look at a few escorts before i totally make my mind up on selling my current project so if there is anyone localish to me willing to let me have a butchers at there car it would be greatly appreicated,
Looks like a great forum you have going and i will be looking forward to sticking around, hopefully (should i have the bottle to sell my car!) i shall also have a car to match soon!
Nick.

yeah, to be honest i'm looking for as standard an example as i can find.
Looking to spend around the 3K mark, depending what i see.
I'm not looking for one with a claimed 350bhp from just an air filter, it's got to be solid and clean. That's the way i like em!
Good theory. Make sure you carry out preventative maintenance on it once you've bought it, give it a full service, belt change, check everything you can see for damage and wear and replace/repair what you find and it'll be a good every day car.
3k will get you a decent enough car too, but budget to spent a bit on it every month as no doubt you will need to on occasion.

I'd consider one that has been tuned a little but i'd much prefer one running standard boost. Depending on what history the car came with.
I know I should probably use the search button but just a quick Q - where are the main area's i should be looking for rust.
Sills?
look everywhere. to name but a few....

good luck finding a solid one. I checked mine over well when viewing it, even took someone with me for a second opinion. Its a good shell but ill still be fitting a new front panel and cross member. Possibly a front wing but havnt decided yet as its still origional and might repair. Ill also be fitting repair panels in the boot. I want it mint now, it was just going to be a good fun second car but i have the bug now and want it as perfect as possible.
You will realise that owning a ford i a way of life and in my opinion the cars are worth spending money on (not like other makes). I came over from the Vauxhall side about a month ago and havnt looked back yet!

Bet you dont keep it at standard boost for long!!!!! The extra 4-5psi you can run really makes a difference!
Good luck in finding a solid one.I bought my nans one from her.She had it from brand new and it had been sat in a garage for 5 years. My fault as didnt even check it,when i got it home i nearly cried.Every panel had been welded underneath. In the end i had to scrap it and i put all the bits into a solid cabriolet shell.
Try the rs owners club nearest to you for good examples.

Alright Nick, you're not mates with a lad called Dan (Clay IIRC) and Phil (Fuzzy Orange) from nr Gainsborough are you?
I've gone from a 106 Quiksilver to an ERST project and an Escort Bonus (soon to be Bonus Turbo when i get the engine rebuilt), ive found that it was a bit odd at first going from the 106 which handled like a go kart almost standard, to the Escort which i've found you can't really throw around quite as much, but other than that i prefer the Escort
The Bonus

Turbo project - 50% rust

And a quick on of my 106 that needs a new beam

I'm prety sure i met you at halfords (was at work) before a Lincoln meet a year or 2 ago.
I still have the 106 and still intend to drive it in the winter month's as a run around and to save worrying about rot (and breaking down - something to deffinately consider as they're not the most reliable of cars), another bonus is that the old RST's are now legible for classic car insurance policy's so fairly cheap to insure as a second car
Quite welcome to pop round one day and take a gander at my ERST (in shell form mind)
Yeah yeah i remember that meet now, must be 2 years ago! How time flies.
Are the S2's eligible for classic insurance? Although i'm only 19 so don't think i would be able to get insured under a classic policy. My renewal is due in july - and believe it or not it's cheaper for me to insure an RS turbo than my XSi!!
