Default leaving ECU unplugged.

With my ECU quite accessable in my car, ive been thinking of just removing the ECU each night/when im at work as thats a pretty damn good detterant to them trying to start it!!!!

on P8 what will you loose by disconnecting it from a power source??? Nothing important i hope!!

That shouldnt be a problem at all I would imagine, but check with your mapper is the best answer, I cant imagine them having anything on there that in anyway cares if it loses power for a while or not though.

Removing it is not a problem at all.
Nothing is saved in memory that needs a permanent power supply.
If you look at a wiring diagram you will see there is no permanent power supply.
All power to the ecu is switched off when you switch off the ignition.
So, removing the ecu entirely does not change anything, as long as it is a Weber-marelli.

1 point to note is that an ECU and its pins and the connector are designed to be permantently connected.

If you start unplugging and replugging twice a day then you could soon run into reliability issues! It might not be just the thief who can't drive your car away!
