1972 Zephyr de-luxe
hiya, i'm new to passionford, nice site you have here...
well, this is the start of what may be a seriously loong project on a mk4 zephyr
i was bought the car by my future mother in law for 250 quid... bargain!, which had been sat for a number of years (more on this later) and did at that time look gorgeous... however, as you'll see from these pictures, it didn't look so fab once i started a closer look:
at first casual glance...

looks as though the wind has caught the bonnet in the year i had been away...

unfortunately a bit of poking revealed this kinda thing all over her...

money shot... genuione 19k mile 3.0l v6, still a nice runner despite the length of time sat

the worst bit of rot... gonna need to brush up on my fabricating skills i think

in any case the whole car will need stripping down and cleaning up, welding, sealing then re-painting, all the carpets replacing (was wet and causing rot on the floorpan) electrics bringing up to date, rear seatbelts fitting, the engine despite it's running status will be stripped and inspected, then probably set to run on triple carbs, the previous owner has some nice 9j rims for it (albeit just test fitted to gauge clearance on the arches)
so the list starts at:
strip down
shell off chassis
shell refurb - all new metal where needed
engine and drivetrain refurb
fibreglass front wings
electrics,
seat belts
interior
mot
it'll be nice to hear any comments about the project and any tips for where to source parts etc, as i'm a bit of a ford noob at the mo...lol

Hi morierty, love these old cars between me and my old fella we had 4 Mk4 Zephyrs, first was a 1966 Ermine White V4 JVT 840D one of the first, second was a 1969 V4 deluxe in Met Green SUD 269G, third was a Black 1972 V4 deluxe XAM 264K ( i believe) and finally a 1972 V6 deluxe in Tawny Metalic.
One thing if the engine is original then I think you will find it will be a 2.5 Essex not 3.0 the latter was only fitted to the Zodiacs, Executives and I believe some of the Zephyrs used by the police, good luck with this project and keep the pics coming.
Regards RScapriman.
