Angry cosworth tapping after rebuild..has now cut out and no spark. :(

I managed to get the car started..... once the car started it made a really loud tapping noise, but after about 30miles it died down. when the car is on idel there is a faint tapping noise, but as soon as i accellerate off the mark and through the gears it gets louder and quicker. when the car is at 65mph the sound seems to get quieter again???? the car is running really smooth and isn't miss fireing or smoking. If thats not enough driving home from work today it just cuts out......now no spark ahhhhh!!! help me please i've been doing this rebuild for a year now and want her finished..lol.

So presumably with No 1 at TDC, both the arrows on the cam pulleys point right at each other?

Did you replace the tappets? They will make a proper racket when they're new - get an oil and filter change done. If it's coming and going it's most likely the tappets. Mine does it - silent on startup, then gets a little tappety, then goes quiet again. Do you have an oil pressure gauge?

if the tapping noise sounds loud and deep/knocking, sounds like a big end.
was the crank checked/ground when engine was rebuilt??
correct undersized bearings used??

it was the tappets the noise has now gone. as for the car cutting out it was a fuse for the fuel pump. all is sorted and she is running like a dream, all ready for the shows.
