failed test..
failed MOT today..pretty catastrophic rot on the rear chassis leg (not what you expect after blowin nr £5k on a motor but thats a different story).

If i hadnt have know the tester he said he would of condemned the car
whats the best way to attack this..?? Are chassis legs available or is it gonna be a plate job d'ya rekon..??

find a breakers yard with a sierra in and cut the legs out ans weld them in yours, its not a pretty job but once its done you know it will be sound
either that or find a decent cosworth shell and stick your bits in it
your's does look quite bad i'm afriad

after all the sierras ive owned, the rear chassis legs is the weakest point
ive seen so many cossies with this, although yours is pretty extreme to be honest
people even bond plates on top and underseal to sell them
ive had one that needed welded, but i couldnt have a car knowing that so sold on,the reason i bought my 3 door is they were solid and untouched
if i was you id weld it and punt it on
youl be lucky to get a sierra in scrappys these days, unfortunatly most were bought for banger racing

The car is a 2wd saph' stg3 with a fresh motor. I bought it Jan & although i had a quick scout underneath i missed this, but to be fair the rest of the car is spot on bar some surface rust under the spare wheel well.
Any tips on ripping the back end to bits, will probably have to drop the diff an trailing arms to get into it proper..
hi i have a saph cossie going to the scrap soon, your welcome to come down and cut out what you need, i gota strip the rear end and its only going to be a dead shell. once its stripped come and take it away
cut what yu want off it! ! or just come down to have a look !? not sure where you are tho to be worth it ?
Near side is still available from Ford but back order from Germany only, there are none left in this country, finis number is 1644593
Off side sadly are no longer available at all, that is why I went all the way to Almeria in Spain to pick up what I thought was the last last off side leg in the world, it had the correct part number which for the O/S is 1644591 but sods law it was a near side one Bugger
A decent second hand o/s one will be the way forward for ya

Could a good welder not repair that? Could be worth talking to Jacko off here?
If you are happy with the rest of the car I'd repair it and enjoy the thing!

It's a simple repair, and done correcty is going to be a load less hassle than cutting out a complete section etc.
My view is this why do a perfect pristine job on a 20 odd year old car like this, as this is just the first of many rusty bits that need doing each year.
It's the same case with my dads xr4i, patched up each year for mot, but getting fed up of doing it now, so getting another shell.
