Default Escort GTI skirts and spats - removal?

Hey guys and gals,

Got me a lovely Escort Finesse 1.6 16v as my first car, and am chuffed with it
But time has come to spice it up a bit! I'd love to whack some skirts and spats from the GTi/RS2k as well as the soft spoke Cossie style alloys.

eBay seems to be so expensive for the skirts and spats, so I'm gonna hit the scrappy and salvage yards to get some.

I've seen tons of guides of how to fit them, but none of how to remove them. Any advice/links?

Thanks, Andy.

Removal can be tricky if they have been riveted on. Screwed on ones are of course easier. I've got a pair of genuine Ford sideskirts minus the front 2 jacking point covers if you want them for Ł60 posted. Currently in Amparo Blue. For spats I would honestly go for genuine Ford for these too as they are more flexible when fitting, and have more fixing points to attach to the bumper.

Tidy looking Escort though by the way.

Cheers, it ain't much but it's mine, so I love it to bits

Thanks for the offer on the skirts, but I think I'm gonna have a look around some yards first, no doubt there will be some lurking around there, maybe (if i'm stupidly lucky) ones in my Escort's shade!

I'm assuming that Ford screwed them on originally then, and people are choosing to rivet them for the extra strength?

Andy.

Alright mate.
got a pair of rear spats waiting to go on ebay. let me know if ur interested. i can do them in colur for u if u want. "obviously ull need to cover the cost of the paint"
now to fitting them. they have spire clip type fixings that basically act as reinforcers for the rivet holes. (without these the rivets would just pull out and ur spats will fall off.
the best way in my experience is to offer them up where you want them and mark around them with something you wash off ie felt tip. when ur happy mark around the fixing point on the spat with a nice thick paint that will transfer to the bumper. place the spat back up while the paint is still wet then ull be able to see where to drill ur holes. remove bumper and rivet the spats in place et voila. ps nail varnish also works.

sometimes though not always the sideskirts are supported by a rail under the back doors or 1/4 if its a 3 dr which rivets on first. its best you get these too or your skirts may well split.

pm me or comment on my thread if interested
