what needs to be removed to swap the springs?

I'm pretty sure it's just a case of undoing the bolt at the bottom of the shock (17mm I think) then pop off the anti roll bar link pull the arm down (but make sure you don't stretch your brake hose) then take the spring out put new one in. job done then same on the other side.
When doing it i would jack the rear of the car up quite high and put axle stands under the front of the rear beam, then use your jack under the rear arm just to take the wieght of the shock bolt and when the bolt is out you can let the jack down slowly with no risk of stretching brake hoses or springs flying out at you.

with the damper bolt removed and the brake flexi hose disconnected the lower arm rests on the rear beam but the spring is still to long

i've removed the drive shaft but cant get the spring past the location cup, grrrrrrrrrrrr...

any help at all??

if your not using the old srings get a grinder and cut them in small peices when you have them out the new lowered ones will go in easy

You will need spring clamps or like a few have said cut them as they are still to long to just come out there isnt enough room. Also no need to remove drive shafts.
