Iv only been shocked a couple of times and the odd missing nuckle after slipping
But A mate of mine was drilling a wing panel on his lap and drilled into his old fella. he had to have a couple of stitches in it and a good few weeks trying not to get excited.

 

I've been very lucky over the years. Quite a few scratches, cuts and grazes. Was jacking my car up on a trolley jack on my mums drive at the end where there wasn't much space. As I pulled the handle down I wasn't looking and smashed my thumb nail on the rockery, bled like a bitch and was pretty painful. My brother just laughed at me

 

Usual scars from spanner slipping of nuts and a scar on my hand where i cut my self with a angle grinder. But been quite lucky so far!

 

I electrocuted myself via the battery, ic pipework and my stainless steel wrist watch, that then became super heated and burnt itself into my wrist, still got the scar! But yeah never get much sympathy, usually people just fall about pissing themselves.

 

I've been lucky, you can always tell if there is a good chance of slipping off a spanner and doing your knuckles. I always used to get my dad or a mate to have a go, then piss myself when they slip and do their knuckles.

I've had angle grinder sparks in the eye, jammed fingers under cylinder heads, etc.

Minced the little finger knuckle on my right hand, it got caught between engine and the mount taking a ZVH out of my old Escort , never put a jerky mate on the engine hoist

Looks like a red malteser on my hand and never been able to straighten my pinky since lol...

 

thrashing out a front wheel bearing once and a bit off metal shot off and went straight through my overalls and trousers and embedded in my leg had to have it cut out and 3 stitchs. all the usaul stuff too ripped a fingernail clean off as well.

 

never had any bad things happen YET (touch wood) caught my index finger right behind the nail with a sanding disc,that bled quite a bit lol had to call my dad to turn the sink tap on so i cud rinse it of,most painfull ive had so far was had a spanner slip off and managed to hit myself on the bridge of my nose lol was only a 13mm spanner but hit me at a fair pace and hurt like hell for about 5 mins lol

My mate had a range rover drop on him (bet he wishes he had used axle stands-MUG!) broke alot of his ribs etc, lucky to be alive.......

 

Apart from the usual cuts and scrapes nothing really, thankfully. I was once changing a condenser in an old Mini, without the battery disconnected, and got zapped pretty good.

 

spring compressor slipped top coil of the spring shot out taking the end of my thumb off down to the base of my nail, a weekend in hospital waiting for them to put it back together followed by 13 weeks off work, many trips for physio and a massive phobia of coil spring compressors.

still got a reasonable compo cheque out of it after 2 years of arguing would rather not have the constant ache in my thumb though through winter.

 

i burnt me hand when i had to drill out the exhaust manifold on me cossie,, was a fool for doing it as i drilled it out then for some reason wiped my thumb over the hole to clear it, chist it was hot !!!
oh also not my injury but it is one that i done working on my car, broke the missus thumb bone with a hammer trying to get the bottom pully off,,, she never moved either as she knew i was getting fucked off about it

i was well popular with hospital nurses telling em i hit my missus hand with a hammer as i could get a car part off

 

not me but was knocking a bottom ball joint out with a 4 pound lumpy and smashed my mate on his hand he screamed as i was pissing my self laughing (sorry mick) still laugh now

 

not me but my mate was doing something on a mk2 escort,another mate started it,it electrocuted him,he grabbed my other mate and electrocuted him,while i stood there pissing my pants while there trying to tell my other mate to turn it off.

 

taking the front bumper off a mk2 golf,undid the crossmember bolt and it dropped and smashed me in the head,had a headache for a while.

 

i chopped half my thumb off recently the ratchet spanner trapped my thumb against the brake disc removing the bottom pinch bolt chopped it clean off at the bottom of my nail, the fooker grew back to i thought the doc was lying when he said it would, also had a spanner smash my eye socket doing a gearbox a few years ago

Usual cuts and and bruises from snug engine bays.
Lad i used to work with decided to play mechanic and change his brake pads himself (big job i know lol) came into work a month later with 2 fingers missing! Said he got them caught trying to take the wheel off! :s

 

Had the usual cuts and bruises, worst things ive had is bad burns off my first cossie exhaust manifold, sliced a finger open on a wing once as i fell and grabbed it and cut it open on the edge

Lucky wasnt bad but could have been, my parents drive is a bit steep but have jacked cars up on it fro as long as i remember, well 1 day i got caught out and the car rolled down the drive on the trolley jack and tehre was me trying to stop it rolling into my gfs car at the bottom of the drive luckly stopped a few inches clear of it!!

I had a mk 3 escort fall on me a few years ago we took a engine out lifted the car up with a crane
I was under the car and my bros mate thought it would be funny to try and scare me by letting it down a bit
and dropped the car on my left side
Now every time its cold I need to have a slash constantly Oh that 1 hurt but so did he a few hours later

Foreman at work got his finger caught in a focus wiper linkage. Pulled the multiplug out an I ran an got a spanner to disconnect the linkage from the motor was lucky ot to break it had it well squashed

My Uncle lost the sight in his left eye from working on his Mk2 Escort. He was removing the brakes and wheel bearing. Hit with hammer and a chuck of metal lodged in his eye.

Still got the eye with no vision. Gutted for him. He has since given up on cars and got rid them all.

i had the strut top fly off and hit me in the face broke me check and blacked me eye. the fooking thing had been off for a week lol i picked it up looked at it and it flew straight off, the week previouse i had tried to remove it to no avail . broken nose when i got hit across the snout with a slide hammer after getting a mate tp use it will i held a hose out of the way. i also had a blob of weld drop on me head roll down my brow and into the corner of my eye i tried to get it out but just pushed it in and burnt it to my eyelids

 

Broke my thumb when a coil spring compressor exploded on me and spring came shooting out the side of it, my thumb went in between two of the coils as the spring came out, pain like i had never felt before.

Broke a finger on the same hand by getting it slammed in a car door, still to this day cant understand how i managed to do it

Put a pair of pointy pliers through my top lip and into my gums trying to remove the horseshoe clip that holds the pin in place on the short handbrake cable on a mk3 escort, had it jacked up just high enough to lay underneath it and was pulling like fuck on the clip and pliers slipped off and stabbed myself in the face with them !

Almost set myself on fire many moons ago working on the fuel pump on a Renault 11 Turbo ! Had the pump disconnected and wires from a battery direct to it and fucking thing sparked somehow which set light to some spilt petrol i lost when removing the pump, i was lying in it at the time and burnt all the hairs off my hand !!!!

 

 

i cut my eye open,

was polishing my cossie throttle body, 1st stage using a wire wheel on a die grinder,

one of the metal wires came off, and sliced my eye open across the lense.

i had to have it all stiched back together, but i can still see!

yea, it wasnt nice,

i never knew they could stich eyes back together, i just assumed i was blind in one eye forever

apparently i was 0.2 of a mm away from loosing sight in that eye, and im now in all the medical books, because it was a rare case, i had hundreds of people popping in to look at it lol

the only real downside is im guaranteed to have a cataract on that eye in the near future, as its scar tissue.

 

mate of mine has had 2 have metal removed from his eye,only went to docs as it started to rust,now he has a blurred area in his vision

must tell him about the cataract thing,that`ll cheer him up!

 

had starter motor of my rst fall on to my face got a scar jst to the left of my left eye

 

slipped putting a turbo back on and a long peice of lock wire was poking out, spanner slipped off the nut and this lockwire went straight in my hand! swear it touched the bone, weird feeling !

also doing gas welding, just been welding with a steel rod, then for some weird reason i thought id wipe the rod on my overalls

my leg didnt like it

 

Doing up the strut to hub bolts & slipped with the ratchet & split bridge of my nose open.
Screwdriver slipped from a screw i was doing up & went through my hand.

Nearly lost my nuts when angle ginder shot out my hand.
