Track car Advice needed - Mk 2 Escort
Hi all - Names John from Preston. Am just about to start building myself a track car so as not to kill my road cars anymore on track.
Was looking for abit of advise re a Mk 2 escort.
Now please go gentle on me - I know sweet Fa about fords as I'm a Pug man through and through
My Grandad has a Ghia 4 door in his garage. been sat there for almost 10 years now doing nothing. No major rust anywhere - Quite mint really
Only thing is its automatic with a puny 1.6 x flow.
How much work would be needed to get the car upto track standards in both handling and power aspects ?
I've also been told that Granada's around A reg had the Rs 2000 engine in them - Anyone know if thats true ? As I can get an A reg Granada for peanuts ( Another of grandads collection )
I have a choice - Its either do the Mk 2 scort and have lots of rwd fun - or Buy a 205 GTI and dump an Mi 16 engine in - The 205 would be stupid quick after abit of work, but I doubt it would be as much fun as the scort
All help and advice greatly recieved

The auto is a better starting point because it has a bigger transmission tunnel
just fit the manual pedal box and you are away.
Don't bother with the 2 litre 16 valve Granada engine as they also made a 2.3 litre with exactly the same external dimensions giving more torque, both the 2 litre and 2.3 Granada engines came with lower lift cams than the RS2000 giving less power but the RS cams bolt straight into the granada engine
