Default rs 7 wheels

i have a set of diamond cut wheels on my car at the moment with 205/40/17. i am looking at buying a set of soft spoke version and was wondering would i be able to fit on 215/45/17 without any issues of rubbing etc. i notice at the moment my wheels stick out a tad already, is this because they are 7.5j. and also since i have put these wheels on my car it has more of a tendancy to pull over the road, like pick up every single bump, would wider/ bigger profile tyres sort this or is it these style of wheels are to wide for the car and would be better with wheels that are 7j. any info would be appreciated, thanks.

They stick out and the car is all over the place because they are the wrong offset! The width of them bears no relevance, you can put an 8J rim on a focus with no issues at all.

Focus needs minimum offset of ET42, ET45+ is recommended, diamond cuts/softspokes are ET35.

wider tyres would make that 'tram lining' effect worse.
