Default Intercooler Choice?

I've recently chipped my S1 and obviously want to run more boost, 15psi ish.

What intercooler does anybody recommend? Grs? Pace?...

Are there any websites i can have a look at.

pro alloy are the daddy as i like the way it tapers down at one end giving you the addittional cooling aswells as the twin fan set up which is a piece of p--s to wire up

top work pro alloy (can i have a free header tank for my s2 turbo now)

GRS is a bit overkill for 15psi really, but it's never money wasted really.

i went the opposite way. my car was built on tight budget. got large front mounted intercooler from a SAAB 9000 of all things. had the plastic ends removed and alloy 1's made up to suit. all in, it cost £65. runs roughly same temps as grs, pro alloy etc. its a cheap option. had frontera td intercooler on last s2. just as good and just as cheep. depends if u want a flash name!!

Fair play tonyturbo

But..out of curiosity, how did the frontera one's cope with boost pressure?Did you run high boost pressure through them because id imagine they wouldnt be designed to take much more that say about 10psi? Honestly not having a pop here, just interested bud

Cheers

*Back to orignal question now *

Ive got a GRS and it works really well.I dont think you could go wrong with either Pro-Alloy or GRS.They both get good reviews!!

Allard are near Blackpool iirc. Mate had a 206 HDi & had cooler custom-built by them & then had it mapped by MSD. Was quick.

i will be looking at this next year , i like the look of the GRS and it is tried and tested on many cars!

im tempted by the pro alloy one as well , question though, does having the fans in front of the intercooler have its downsides , ie- not cooling rad enough or blocking areas of the cooler??
the GRS has the fans in between abd i thought this was good , opinions please

that was the first question i asked mate, those fans cool the puppy down pretty quickly though.

any one got a pic of the pro alloy cooler fitted? i found it ok to fit but not as easy as i thought. just want to make sure ive fitted it properly.

Have you ever actually seen this done in a S1? It's a bit different case from the S2.

Just been thiking about this for a few days!

and imho if you will only ever run 15psi no higher...then why spend absolute loads when (sorry to offend) a pace double size is quite adequite (spel) ...im running 16psi through mie and have been all summer!

Then you wont have to worrie about water temps cus the rad is still open! and you can use ya standerd fan!

Im thinking of pumping my boost up to 18psi soon,so thats the only reason im thinking of getting a bigger cooler! and im goin with a rad tec! cheaper than the GRS and pro alloy and will cope with 24+psi! (tho no disrespect to the aforementioned companys! as im sure the grs and pro alloy are good good coolers!

If i was to choose between grs and pro alloy i would go with the pro alloy! purely on the fact that not everyone has one! and the shape leave some of ya rad open to the breaze, also with the turbo cooler option water temps should never be a problem!

Hope this helps!

also hope it makes some sense!

rswoza i have no pics of mine as car is off having some mooore work done to her

but i can tell ya that mine was a bit of a mare to fit, had to cut front panel and modify the grill to fit it all in

this could be due to me having a large core rad as pro alloy quote an hour (ish) to fit and require no cutting
