Default Brake upgrades?

Ok, been looking for answers and seems to be alot of different views on this so gonna ask once more.

Ive done a turbo transplant from my s2 erst to my xr3i cab. XR3i cab didnt have abs so now using turbo power (will be running no more than about 180bhp eventually) but using standard crap xr3i brakes.

Unfortuantely I only managed to remove one side of the rs turbo brakes before it was scrapped so as I got to buy the whole lot what is the cheapest but best option for a brake upgrade for the above power.

The choices i seem to have are:

1. 4x4 cossie calipers, 4x4 discs and 4x4 pads.
2. 4x4 cossie calipers, 2wd discs & 4x4 pads.
3. RS Turbo calipers, 2wd discs & rs turbo pads.
4. Mondeo v6 calipers, 2wd cossie discs & mondeo v6 pads.

Looking on ebay the cheapest option seems either 3 or 4 but im gutted i didnt remove the other rs turbo caliper before my old erst was scrapped. So prob looking for mondeo v6 calipers,v6 pads and 2wd cossie discs as these seem cheapest but best to do.

Also gonna fit some braided hoses too.

Anybody got any other ideas let me know.

If anybody has the above for sale for as cheap as poss please let me know.

Thanks
Mark D

XR3 and RS Turbo brakes are the same mate. At least xr2i and FRST ones are. I'd go 4x4 Cosworth if it were me.

an someone confirm that the calipers are the same btwn xr3i and rs turbo. If so, then i will just get bigger discs and uprated hoses. It all depends on what sort of deal i would get. COssie setup seems to go for above Ł100 where mondeo v6 ones seem to go for less, obviously rs turbo even less cost.

Mondeo V6 brakes aren't much better than standard items I dont think. I'm 99% sure the XR and RS front brakes are identical. Remember your brakes are one of the most important componants. I'm a brake man so the first thing I do to a car is put Big front brakes on. Ł100 is nothing for peice of mind.

XR3 and RS Turbo brakes are NOT the same as said above!!
i use S2 RST calipers and 2wd Cossie disc's on the front of my 230 bhp RST and they have no trouble stopping it!!

I think bigger brakes are quite difficult to get, specially here in Finland.
And is there any caliber&disc set which would directly fit into rs turbo without any modifications? Front.

mk3 xr3i and s1 brakes are the same mk4 xr3i and s2 brakes are NOT the same, the s2 uses the brakes off a xr4i or xr4x4 iirc

out of all your choices above id wouldnt bother with any of them and instead
would use

cossie 2wd 4 pot calipers
4x4 discs
2wd pads

you will need to modify the calipers very slightly but it will give u good brakes for little cash, also refurbish whatever calipers you buy with new seals

i have s2 brakes on my s1 and as the s1 has no abs they work well

Why would you use 4x4 disc's when 2wd ones are bigger and will work with that set up????!!!

I'm in Hereford and have some RST calipers and drilled and grooved discs you can have if you pick them up.

thats what i thought you had to use on a erst with 2wd calipers, if not then to me

if he got 2wd calipers, im sure some people on here have done the conversion, so they will be able to advise him on what exactly to do

Bin those pads please if your looking for a decent set up.

The XR range has a single piston 53.9mm in diameter and the RS has a single piston diameter of 59.9mm

Not a great deal but a difference non the less

Agreed.....i run exactly the same setup, works well on track as well as road, the perfect compromise imo, loads better than standard rst brakes but not massively expensive to do either
