Default jail for 122mph 2 up on a bike your thoughts

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/UK-...Back_At_122mph

My opinion is jail is wrong it's robbing the son of his father for that time, yes it was way out of order and the consequences for himeself his son and other innocent motorists could have been catastophic, but he would get less if if he took him on a burglary!! ffs

if he was in a car would he have got the same ? As in law there is no difference betwwen the 2 offences car or bike..
a long ban and large fine would suffice, it's not as if the bike was stolen or being driven illegally (apart for the obvious speeding!)

steve

One thing risking his own life but to risk his sons aswell!!!

Maybe prison might give him a chance to reflect on his own stupidity!!

at 122mph, you are looking at a jail sentence anyway (more than twice single carriageway national speed limit)... and 6 months is about what you would get...

BUT there is a big different in driving like that with only you and also with a passenger.
only you - you mess up, most of the time you face the injury's
with a passenger - both face injury's and possibly death(especially at 122mph).

would you be able to live with yourself if you killed your best mate/son because you were doing that speed and messed up?

plus it doesnt look too dry, looks damp with spray from tyres... perfect conditions to e riding like that...

His mistake was it was his own bike, if he had stolen it he'd have been given a slap on the wrist instead

Yeah apparently it was raining/or had been at the time, at the end of the day, you know what COULD happen if you got caught, so not much sympathy I'm afraid. I'm not saying that I don't ever speed, but I wouldn't do that in a car in those conditions, let alone a bike.

Isn't that wreckless endangerment?

Due to the child not being of an age where the law believes he can make his own decisions in life it's a higher punishment?

its soaking! look at the spray being kicked up, i have been on my dads bike years ago doing the same but had all the gear on and it was dry! Wouldnt think of doing this with my boy on the back, couldnt live with myself if i did something daft or more likely a car pulled out in front of me and i hurt or killed my boy. Fk that, he should have known better and that is coming from a complete fkn idiot on a bike! If you knew me you would agree........

I think its too harsh aswell, i mean if he crashed and killed his son then he would have to live with that for the rest of his life, plus he'd be banged up anyway for that.

P.s if i had my own kid in the car i wouldnt even do that speed in my car let alone a bike, very foolish

It's certainly not clever going that fast in the wet but jail seems harsh imo!

Given the conditions and the fact his son wasnt wearing protective gear and is too young to have decided of his own free wheel to partake in such risks, I think that is fiar enough him getting sent down for it TBH.

Ive done far higher speeds than that on a bike with a pillion so im not anti biker or anti speeding, but Ive only ever done it with a consenting adult who knew what speeds I would be doing when they got on, never with a child on the back.

You cannot get jailed for speeding alone.

They must of charged him with dangerous driving.

I agree with the punishment but jailed for 6 months is a bit excessive, maybe 6 weeks would have been more fitting and given the guy the right time to think how stupid he has been with his own son on the back in far from suitable conditions for a bike.

Deserved everything he got imho,
I expect his son will remember and benefit from the lessons given to this irresponsible parent, im no so certain about his father though.

If you behaive like a twat you get treated like one, that is absolute madness and someone who displays that lack of judgement should be sent to prison. Just to add to what nilrem said, twice the national speed limit is no garuntee of a custodial sentance. The fastest speed I saw was a biker who was caught at 145.9 mph, he was banned for 6 months and realised just how lucky he was.

Speeding is a summary only offence so not imprisonable. Drunk & Disorderly is the same for example

I still think its harsh to get jail for that. Long ban definitely. For the amount of time he got, he might as well have punched the judges lights out and got another 6 months concurrently for assault

theres muggers, robbers, etc who get less. Theres plenty of paedophiles who only get 6 months for a single offence abusing a kid as part of plea bargaining!!

Not in the same league IMO.

Hed probably of only got 6 months for death by dangerous if he had a good lawyer anyway

So no i still dont think its crime matches the punishment.

And of course he aint a choir boy!! hes been banned and fined. they could have upped the fine and ban and ordered extended retest and that would hit him far harder IMO.

I don`t think it`s that harsh tbh, its soaking wet, doing stupid speeds with his own son on the back who hasn`t even got the proper gear on! What does he expect? If they come off at that speed, you`d be dead, end of. Besides, he probarbly won`t even do half that sentence, could of been worse, could of killed himself and his son.

Just because other's are let off far too lightly I dont think it should mean nobs like him are to. Part of the problem is that the press and media only ever tell you about cases where the sentance was unduely lenient, they hardly ever tell you about the hundreds of cases where people got exactly what they deserve.

Kid had no protective clothing, expect that put a big nail in his coffin.
It's one thing to do that speed and be prepared best you can, but that just takes the piss.

Six months (as said he'll only do 3) might seem harsh but I bet its fuck all compared to burying your child, which is what he might of ended up doing.

i think thats a bit harsh, how many of you guys have been double the speed limit on the M1 in your cossies on the way to shows etc, i think bikers get a raw deal whether it be the law, insurance companies ( you have a crash its your fault regardless) etc.

Thats a bit different, he was on 2 wheels, doing 122mph with his own kid on the back, in the wet! If your gonna act like that, then u deserve a little stretch. Even if it was a cossie, i still wouldn`t do that speed with my own son in the car...

risking the life of his child deserves the jail sentence. i speed but not with anyone in the car not least my children. it wasnt just slightly over the limit it was not far off double.
