opinions wanted with ebay item
put my stereo up for sale on ebay, its a few years old, cost around £300, got sony unit with acoustic solutions speakers and stands. no B&O but its a very good setup i think, sounds brill etc.
i realise this is against ebay rules, but bearing in mind it owes me £300, its sold for £10.00 (starting bid), am i out of order for saying im not willing to let it go for that much?
before the hair splitting brigade get on my back, i realise the rules and theory behind ebay, so dont start, but i did what everyone does and puts the starting bid low, and genuinely forgot to put as reserve.
am i a cunt or being reasonable?

it can be a shit forgetting to put a reserve.
anything that you do is going to end up as negative feedback.
could say to the person that the reserve was 100 but a typo made it the 10 it went for. and see what they are willing to offer? i mean anything you try is gonna be a bit c*ntish, but then thats gonna be the only way out of it i guess.
just a thought.

you never forgot something?!
ill see what he says. he paid me by paypal straight after the auction but i can just refund him the money and take his badfeedback. shit happens. doubt ill ever use ebay after this anyway so its no biggie.
Its a hard pill to swallow but i would just let it go. He won it fair and square. He will also know your name and address now as it comes through with an ebay invoice...I travelled 200 miles and knocked at the blokes door when i got messed around...
Alternatively email him, say you dropped it when removing it, you've tested it and it seems to work ok but cuts in and out intermitently and ask him if he still wants it. I know what the answer will be....

Unfortunately I think morally you should let it go, and put it down to experience. Imagine if the tables were turned and it was you winning a £300 stereo for £10, and you had paid? Surely you would be going mad, doing everything in your power to get what you had rightfully won

morally you should let it go, hard to say really, you say it owes you £300, but you were never likely to get anywhere near that figure back, on a great day you would only get £50 i think! stereo gear is like computer gear, 3 months old and its obsolete and lost 50% of its value, so a few years old its pretty much worthless only holds personal value!
id just let it go tbh mate

just put that the resever was £100 not £10 and see what he says
at least that way you've put the ball into his court and it's believeable mistake to happen
much more believable than telling him you've dropped it
or you could be honest and tell him you fucked up and didn't want it to go for that little and are now being a bit difficult
on the morals scale of things, when i asked martin to get my some stoppers and then found the exact same stoppers on ebay for half the price, i really REALLY wanted to save the money, but thought to myself, "that would make me out to be a bit of a cunt" so i didn't
martin said i was a fool to not have bought them later when i told him, but it was to late then, but at least i felt good
this guy, you don't know from adam, and it's highly unlikely you are ever going to bump into him or he's going ot knock on your door for the radio, so it's up to you really

just tell him above reserve was £100 and your not going to let it go for £10
worse case is your going to get bad feedback which isnt really an issue
if hes already paid then refund him simple as

If you decide to keep it then I guess Id just send him a message saying that you dropped it as per the post above, and then whack it in your van, if you relist it again it will be obvious what a cunt you are
exactly. I sell loads on ebay, and sometimes stuff goes lower than you would like, sometimes it goes for more. If you had won it for a tenner and the seller backed out then you would be on here moaning about that I bet!
Agreed just sell it mate.
I had a Skoda Octavia on there last week on an 02 plate, the car owed me absolutly nothing as I had taken it as a part ex against something else and I chucked it on there taxed May, tested November but with 170k on the clock but EML was on and needed couple of faults sorting that it was throwing up. It went for £350 (bargain as it drove mint) and I was sat there thinking "Fuck for that cash I should have just kept it myself for a runabout" but it had sold so I let it go...
End of the day though I didn't lose out cos i'd made money on the car I had originally sold anyway!

im not being tight you fucking prick, i forgot, which is why im so pissed off about it. if i had been a tight cunt, dont you think i wouldve either taken this on the chin, or just got a mate to bid up the auction before it ended?
ive told the bloke im sorry but im not prepared to let it go for so little, so we'll see what he says, if he offers me £40 (still peanuts i feel) ill take it. if he says he wants it then he'll get his money back and an apologetic email saying one of the speakers was badly damaged while stripping it down blah blah. its harsh but tbh i dont give a fuck, im not letting it go for so little. id sooner give it to a charity shop and have the money go to charity than give it away to some cunt i dont even know.
are you fucking serious?! thats REALLY fucked me off. i FORGOT to put a reseve on. i listed about 12 other things which i didnt put a reserve on (car stuff that was going to the tip otherwise) and when it came to the stereo, i was in auto pilot and listed it exactly like the other stuff, without a reserve.

At the end of the day you signed up to E-bay KNOWING the rules...... Simple as!!!
Its an AUCTION site............ So the highest bidder won the AUCTION......
Like someone has said, if you had won a item worth £300 for £10 and then the guy backed out of it as he didnt want to sell it for that money....you would be the first to kick up about it.....
Reserves are there for a reason...........
i think if i won £300 worth of stereo for the £10 starting bid i wouldnt be surpised if the bloke wanted to haggle. but of course none of you will believe that.
tiff i did ask for views, but i didnt ask to be called a tight fucker and a liar thanks.
apologies for calling you a fucking prick as i hate name callers and was just wound up, but the rest of my comment stands.

I have had this done to me a few times in the past and its really pissed me off, but to be honest if you are gonna back out of it, at least be honest and tell him what you have done, as in my experience, if it is something that some one really wants they may be prepared to pay the extra, for your fuck up
do the right thing and send it to him
then feel proud you have morals
your better than all the other dishonest people in the world then. can't put a price on that feeling. THEN when you get your share of good luck in the future you will know why it has happened
Karma
at the end of the day it isn't 10 grand so it won't kill you, one of them things, shiit happens
but maybe you will be respected for it and thats worth more than 90 quid
only what i would do

This is the prob with ebay. Im soz m8 but it was your fault for not correctly auctioning it so should suffer the consequences not the bidder.
If everyone stuck to the rules then ebay would be a better place, however these days if you win something for 99p, its not necessarily 99p anymore.

are you fucking serious, you have but an add on ebay, which has run for 7 days or whatever it is, and not thought, ooh shit it hasnt reached my reserve price yet, ...................ah actually i havent put a reserve price on it.
