Default Whats the deal with warranty from dealers?

Found another golf from a car dealers, and it says 24 months warranty on this car.

So I called the clown up, and asked him about it.

He said all mechanical parts, turbo, gearbox, engine all covered, unlimited mileage..

Whats the catch?

The catch is the warranty in real terms is worth fuck all - if anything goes wrong they'll wriggle until they get out of it and you'll foot the bill. Better off telling them to poke the warranty (unless it's on a nearly new car from a main agent ?) and get a discount on the price.

Its a 52 plate Golf GT TDi 150, so not exactly new. Also has 129k on the clock.

Its been always serviced by VW, so I would probably need to keep that up, which is fine.

This is obviously a "Aftermarket" warranty which as you will see on Watchdog aren't worth shit

"If" its the VAG arrangement you get 2 years warranty on any parts that have been paid for. example If the centre exhaust was replaced and paid for by a prev owner, there's 2 year warranty if it needs replacing.

i used to sell them when i was a new and used sales executive at a main dealers, i would knock my pipe out selling the warrentys due to the kick back from the warrenty company and when the car broke down and the mug...... i mean customer came back and complained i would have to refer the mug to the warrenty company which was 250 miles away and reluctant to part with any cash for them.
the best warrentys are from the garage themselves,i sold them included in the deal with the good stuff that the boss knew was a good car and as there was say 2 grand profit in the car he knew if it did go bandit he could fix it and fook them off.
