im thinking of buying a escort gti estate 1.8 i have been told that it is 130bhp standard but all i can find is that it is it should be 115 is he telling me porkeys. is there any higher bhp models ect. thanks matt

iirc, and if zetec engine, escort gti's run the 130hp engine, where as others use the 105hp engine. 130hp block in the 1.8 has the oil spout things under the pistons, just like the 2.0.

Well if you take it for a test drive you will be able to tell if its 165 or 115.

If its bog standard it will feel like any other 1.8 car

 

If you think hes taking you for a ride then look elsewhere, theres plenty around

 

Do ford modify their engines then? As in if you went in there and said "i want an extra 50BHP, can you do it?"..... They dont, do they?

Escort xr3i 105/130 spec. Escort GTI's were only in 115spec. Inlets are different on the 3 engines.

130 spec has spray bars for under piston cooling.

 

GTI's were available in 90ps, 115ps and 130ps.. 99.9% of them are 115ps though.

There were some 1.6 ones hacked together (by dealers I believe) before the proper GTI came out.. 130ps was an option on most Escorts if you wanted to pay for it..

So do i, i mean every one complained the 1.8 115bhp was too slow for a GTi and that they should have had the rs2000 engine/brakes, so why on earth would there be an even slower 90bhp model

You can get 2.0 GTi's, I'm sure of it. Actually, the red one my Dad test drove when they came out was a 2.0.

The only petrol Escorts with 2 litre engines were the RS2000 and Cosworth.

I'm concerned with your 'expert knowledge' fella, you've posted up a picture of what looks like a 1.6 LX with a 'vetrick' engine and you're using that as an example. The person selling that particular car is wrong, and you've taken it as fact!

 

No, you're assuming far too much. I posted that, even with the stupid description, as that is exactly what the 1.6 'GTI's looked like.

 

Gtis where all 1.8s well the ones i have seen are,and I hyave seen one or two lol

 

They are all 115bhp

They do respond well with a magnex exhaust and a pipercross induction kit as i know of one that made 140bhp on the rollers and thats not a bullshitter

even with a chip it wouldnt make 165bhp as you will gain 10-12 bhp at the most with a chip

Unless its got the lot and its had cams etc but thats a lot of money for little gains

 

The 1.6's were very early and rare.. fortunately!

not too many Gti Estates though. I'd have liked one myself but ended up with my 306 estate instead. I used to have a Gti 3door hatchback and it was 115bhp 1.8.
