Braided brake lines - discuss
Alright all, I recently made some copper nickel brake lines, but seeing as im crap at bending them neatly I thought of using braded lines from the master cylidner to the mount on inner wings (I've already got braided lines from mount-caliper.
Anyone done this? any idea in cost, where to get and and issue's with doing it?
I'd probably run both front lines and braided line for the rear from M/s to under the bulkhead where it would then be copper to the rear bias valve...depending

im going to be running my lines completely braided, managed to get hold of a load of goodridge -3 braided brake line, so figure would be rude not to use it
retail on the hose itself is roughly 8-10quid a meter, then the fittings themselves are the main cost

ive got it on mine
1 line to the connection on the inner wing then to the caliper each side
1 line straight to the back then tee off to both sides
have a look on here

Nigel, how do the brakes feel compared to having copper lines? any diffrence?
What hose did you use? "Aeroquip TFE racing hose?
RSandy, I was looking at the fittings in demon thieves catalogue and they dont look cheap
but quite fancy doing it this way!
Just no idea what fittings to buy, would need 3 45degree bends coming off the M/S (not sure if I need fittings to screw into M/S first then screw the bend on?) then the hose, then the fittings at the other ends at the inner wings?

you start to wonder who's right and who's wrong. Know who's side Im on and thats why my car is braided all the way through.

i couldnt say what the brakes would of been like with a master cylinder as i didnt have them with the braided lines
yes i use tfe
i run a pedalbox
braided vs copper/tubed lines
depends on how careful you are with fitting
how regular you change the fluid
both can get damaged in use

The only possible concern as far as I can see is that of the pipe expanding when you use it, thats the only way it would affect your pedal feel, your passing brake fluid at high pressure, if that pressure is kept in and the pipe doesnt expand then it cant be any different. I cant think of one good reason to run solid lines, when you make them yourself they look shit 9 times out of 10 and nothing like the original. With braided you run it where you want and it looks like a hell of a neater job. For the record I didnt feel any difference whatsoever when I ran full lines on my car, but it sure saved me a lot of time and pissing about that trying to bend solids would have done.
Not at all, without checking my reciepts im not 100% but im sure I used

the fittings are the dearest part but as long as you get the right ones its not too much, like I say Im not sure if these are the cheapest now, I did it 4 or 5 years ago and they were. Someone might know somewhere cheaper, theyre a piece of piss to assemble though so dont fret on that part.

My entire braking sytem is TFE. I have just redone the front end completely with Stainless fittings. I'm pleased with how it looks and will put pics on my project thread soon.
Costwise. I hate to fucking think.

if u have a james listers branch local, you could try them for fittings, thats where im going (dont kno how far n wide their braches stretch tho lol)
infact any hydraulic component supplier will be able to supply, and fit if going with swaged on items, all the fittings
easiest way to do it is cut your hose runs, and then take the MS, bias valve etc down with u, n have the fittings matched there and then

I can see the attraction of running briaded linesd withing the bay, but the long lengths under the car - what a waste of money.... There is zero expansion with solid lines. Minimal with PTFE braided. Take your pick.

bloody hell just went to order 6meters of braided hose and 3 90 degree swivel fittings from rally design and the total came to £75 inc VAT & delivery
need to shop around me thinks! lol

Went and got all the bits today from my local hydraulic fittings company (some guys
) all in inc the hose it cost around £80.
Only thing I still need to get is an adaptor to convert -3 PTFE to copper brake pipe for the rear line.
And order some P clips to secure the braided lines to the chassis and stick some samco where it might rub on places!
cheers for the help everyone, well pleased with the outcome and worth the 80 bucks! (imo)

im off to buy fittings, but havent cut the hose lengths yet, was hoping to get the type i could fit myself and fit as i go
also, how much did the hose itself end up costing per metre, if you dnt mind me asking?
whats the 3rd hose that sticks out the bottom of your master cylinder?
also, how many meters of hose did u end up using for the bay runs? iv got myself a lil reel of -3, n just hoping i have enough, as im planning on doing the entire car, fingers crossed

2 hoses at the front are for each front wheel, hose at the back is for the rear.
you've got me thinking, is that wrong?
as the 2 front outlets on the M/S are different size, is there a reason? i.e. larger front outlet, is meant to be Tee'd off for both front?
I used jus under 4 metres for the engine bay.

all i know is i had a 4 outlet Master, and got told to get an rs turbo 2 outlet master, and use 1 outlet for the front, and 1 for the rear
but that looks different to both the master cylinders iv got, has that big bump that the front bottom hose comes out of, so im confused enough
its probably fine though, looks good
