Default My Series 1 Restoration now with Pics as requested !

(September 08)

After selling my last one which i immediately regretted, (some of you may remember my last resto) i decided to buy another one.

There was no way i would get such a good example as my last one, with FSH and 55k miles from new, for the money i did, so i got my hands on a 3 owner, 100k miler, with FSH, all old MOTs, and a stack of receipts....good start....

Drove her all the way home problem free from London to Aberdeen.....and started the same way as i did my last one....

The aim was to do the underside and engine bay, to as close to immaculate as possible, and freshen the interior....one bolster is sagging and the dash is cracked.

I managed to get my hands on a concourse dash for £300 last month, and the underside is now finished in a little over first two months odd night here and weekend there.....engine is out now, engine bay is stripped out, and its ready to go into my mates bodyshop.

The engine bay has since been sprayed in proper Diamond White. The bodykit is getting a freshen up at the end of the resto, along with the front panel, and the rear valance. Other than that its fine, no rot, no rust other than surface which came off with Scotchbrite, and in need of some light TLC.

Car goes in for more paintwork next week. All the underside has been rubbed down, arches and floorpan were coated with white stonechip shield, and 5 coats of smooth hammerite.

(Jan 09)
Everything underneath is brand new, fuel lines, brake lines, all clips, fuel tank, pump, pump holder, and all struts replaced with genuine Ford items. Springs are -30mm lower, and all handling kit, arms, tie bars, roll bars etc have been blasted and powder coated black. Brakes are new drums refurbed, and stainless braided hoses to go on...its a lot more work than i remember, but pics below of the progress so far.

Hope you like

Got the car home and had a good look all round, no rot and minimal surface rust, fuel tank, cradle etc were all knackered, but thats bolt ons, the main part being the body was solid....ready to be worked on !!

So into the garage she went, up on Axle stands, and ready to be stripped underneath and engine bay.

The full underside was rebuilt to new.

Everything that was removed such as arms, tie bars, rods, roll bars etc powder coated, nee gen ford parts bought where possible, brakes replaced, new brake lines, new fuel tank, new fuel pump and bracket, new handbrake cable, poly bushes, etc etc etc.

Every single nut and bolt replaced with new stainless items.

Next up once the underside was finished, was to strip the engine out, strip the engine bay, and get it cleaned and prepped for painting.

Once this was all done, the next part was to strip and rebuild the engine and start getting all the other parts cleaned, replaced with new, and ready to fit back in.

Gearbox was also stripped powder coated and rebuilt.
