Default T4 TURBO MARKINGS.......... UPDATED : NOW WITH PICS.....???

Got my T4 off the car at the moment as it's always been very laggy (Compared to other T4's)

Can't find any markings which I would normally have expected to find (T04E I believe was the normal marking on an RS500 Turbo).

The only Markings I can find are " M10 A/R .70 GARRETT 367-2" In that order around the front of the turbo casting.

Any ideas......

Jim, T4s dont say T04E on them, thats just what they called.

What ex housing a/r is it?

Itd almost certainly be the right one as i dont think you can get bigger that fits with an internal gate, but dunno...

Spools up around 5.5k and then just keeps boosting.

Have identified that the exhaust turbine is not cut back, but it appears to have a different pitch to a normal RS500 T4.

Will sent pic of exhaust blades if it'll help.

Just don't seem to be able to find any T04E Markings on it though, so think it might not have originally come from and RS500

Yep, it's like waiting for paint to dry, but when it does come in it just keeps coming all the way to the red line.

Sending it to Vince at Universal Turbo's to have it diagnosed as I bought it as a rebuilt unit (Which it was) But don't know it's history or what it was built up for other than the seller stated it was built up for a big bhp cossie engine.

From the pics of the exhaust wheel, karl and Mike "R" recon it's not got a cut back wheel, but the pitch of the blades don't look like a RS500 should. The pitch is wrong.

Just trying to identify what it might of orignally come from (If it didn't come off an RS500, and what spec it might be.....

IAN : Yep, it is, hence it's now off the car and going to Vince at Universal Turbo's to be sorted.

Just imagining what he might say. Lol

Jim,

My T4 is at full boost by 3,800 RPM. Supplied by Vince (purchased from Harvey SCS).....Perhaps ask Vince to re-core it as a "standard SCS spec" unit, i.e. SCS trim/360° bearing etc..........these are good for 540 - even 550 BHP

Thanks Doug...... Have been considering that, as I know he builds up Harveys.

On full boost at anything under 4k would suit me fine. I'm not into red lining it all the time. Karls doing my head for me, so hopefully it's all come together soon, but I need the turbo sorted first.

sounds a bit too laggy,

mine can on at 4.5 rpm atleast,

sounds like there is something a miss with the turbo spec,

perhaps take it off and borrow another T4,

i have a spare good one,

For it to be THAT laggy id say theres somthing wrong rather than it being the turbo.

No way would just cut back blades etc make the bloody thing be 1000rpm worse in lag.

Even the ex housing would have to be drasticly bigger to be that much worse, and i doubt if its any bigger at all.

Id put my money on another problem, a unnoticed boost leak (intercooler?), wastegate not sealing properly, or some issue with cam timing or summat, as 5500rpm is REALLY bad even for a T4...

the shaft is probably for a large wagon application or some such thing i know there was a few t4s knocking about that had been put together that way.

Yep, we (Karl and Me) thought that it might be something else, but as a stage 3 on greens and a T34 it made 327bhp and good torque, all we did was put in grey injectors and the T4 and it ended up as it is now, so don't think the problem is with the engine. The intercooler has been checked, and no leaks, wastegate appears not to be leaking, but will get vince to check it out.

Martin. : Thanks for the offer..... I'll see what Vince says first, and go from there.

Never know I might have to by another one, as I don't know what they can do with turbo's . I guess it could end up being a big rebuild bill for mine, or buy another one.

What I basically want, is a standard RS500 T4 or one modified to reduce the lag (As much as possible on a T4.

Even if i was off one, the shaft being off a lorry wouldnt affect anything apart from strength.
Its the same housings (or youd of noticed), if it was off a diesel the exhaust housing would be far far bigger compared to the compressor (as diesels create far more ex gas than a 4stroke petrol so need bigger housings), so dont worry there.

Hi Gus,

On a shoe string budget at the moment, and if it was good enough for Labatts and Andy Rouse it's good enough for me.
