Default new engine + gearbox for mk5 cortina

I'm getting a non runner Cortina mk5 this week which currently has a 1.6 Pinto and I think a 4 speed manual gearbox. I'll be starting on the bodywork and interior first which will take forever, but could do with some advice on what engine and gearbox would be a suitable modern updrade. I would ideally like a Zetec, but wouldn't know where to start with a conversion. Has anyone got any tips or advice?

Depends on what power you want, zetec ace engine, as is pinto, there are many to consider such as duratec, cossie(yb)V6, V8.

Not too concerened about power, just something more modern than the Pinto that is currently there. I've had a look around and a fully reconditioned Pinto mated to a type 9seems to be a lot cheaper than any conversion I can see, so I might just save up for that.
