Ford Fiesta ST

I think i might be meandering down to Fords in the new year, i like
While the Zetec S duo will appeal to cost-conscious buyers, it's the 150bhp ST that will get performance fans really excited. As we revealed in last week's Auto Express, the racy looks set it apart, while the special edition white paint and £200 stripe package mean our test car looks every bit a worthy XR2 successor.
The question is, does it live up to a long line of sporting Fiestas out on the road? Ford's engineers have worked hard to make sure it does - stiffened suspension combined with revised damping means the ST feels more alive than any previous sporting model.
Despite the steering being a little artificial around the centre point, turn-in is positive and quick, while front-end grip is excellent. What's more, the Fiesta remains stable through corners, even if it does lift its inside rear wheel when provoked. This excellent control means the ST, as with all good hot hatches, is very adjustable. You can use the throttle to balance the car through bends, and at all times it feels controllable.
The ST is light, agile and fun, while Ford has resisted the temptation to make the ride unpleasantly stiff, as it's pliant over undulating roads. The suspension gets jittery on really uneven surfaces, but despite our test car's optional 17-inch wheels, it never gets too crashy for comfort around town.
This is the first Fiesta equipped with disc brakes at the rear, and stopping power and pedal feel are good. Under the bonnet, the 2.0-litre Duratec engine may lack the ultimate output of more powerful rivals such as the Renaultsport Clio, but performance is brisk, with a near 130mph top speed, and throttle response sharp - 0-60mph arrives in around eight seconds. The tuned exhaust also gives a pleasant burble, but it does get coarse towards the 6,500rpm mark. Nevertheless, with leather sports seats and chrome details to brighten up the interior, the ST will bring a smile to the faces of fast Ford lovers.

Not wanting to split hairs but..................this has 150ish bhp and a standard (as you prob already know) the ERST had only 130 (??) bhp
AND
how much was a new ERST from Fords back in the day? Can't of been far off this?
Different things for different peeps, this would suit me to the ground
as a 115bhp TDCi Focus is VERY dull.

The Fiesta is still a step in the right direct for Ford i think

But the new Focus isnt
i fooking love the look of it!
thing is, like has been said befor, unless your one of these queers who HAS to have a new car, you can buy a whole lot more than that for £14k.
but, i think after theyve dropped in price in the used car market theyd be proper bo!
im assuming that the engine bears similarities to the ST170, so surely the bits that make that 20bhp difference on the focus could be swapped onto the fiesta, and then along with a filter, zorst and blue fin id imagine itd be a rather quick little shopping trolly!

Dont think the ST150 will have any of these. It will be a 2.0l 16v producing 150 bhp

my point is, itd be more sensible to wait 12-18 months and get one for about 10 grand!
im not saying everyone who buys new cars are queer :
pmsl!
IMO in plain white itd look boring as shit, the stripes liven it up totally.
Wouldnt really call em viper stripes tho, not the same.
Seems a nice car but in performance (inc handling i bet) not in the same league as the Clios, and for that money quite a lot of other cars...
And regarding that having 150bhp and a ERST 130, i bet the ERST has better power to weight ratio, doubt that things light (unlike the Clio's, as long as they not got all the aircon and other homo options fitted)

I could be wrong, but was it summin to do with ford inventing these stripes. Thats why they are going back to them now.......bit like sum fashion statements
I think the stripes look ok, but the car is great

Sorry for the size.
my mate has his heart set on getting one of these.
hes just waiting for ford to give a date and stick to it.
i think they look great but when the fiesta RS comes out, people will forget about the ST.

The ST is a top little car drove it last week for a couple of days - my review's in the Feb 2005 issue of PF so look out for it.
Ben
PS - In the pictures i HATED the stripes... but the honest truth is that in the flesh they look VERY good (much better than a non striped car).
PPS - Oh, and the basic car is £13500 - VERY good value given the engineering, development and also the build quality.
