Default Dual booting XP and Ubuntu......

I'm now dual booting XP (SP2 Pro) and Ubuntu (8.04) on my laptop It wouldn't let me install alongside, as it had problems partitioning the HDD, but it did let me install it inside Windows, and created a 10gb portition and gives me the choice of booting into XP or Ubuntu on boot up

So, what should I be doing with this? So far it's a stock install - FF3, Transmission (tho I don't bother with torrents on my laptop as it's only an 802.11b wifi card) Do I need to install Open Office or is it bundled? It downloaded and installed 339 updates after booting, and sure I saw something about OO in there, but can't find it in the Applications?

Never used Ubuntu before, so no idea what I'm doing really - how can I get it to see music, pics and vids I have on my Windows partition? And stuff like Safari/IE bookmarks etc?

And how do I stop it from asking me for a username and password everytime I boot it up? I managed to get Windows to stop it when I boot up my Windows computers, but I can't figure out how to turn it off in Ubuntu.....
