i bought an 88'spec xr3i.i bought the car as a non-runner.i tryed turning over the engine and i found out that the fuel pump was seized so i bought a new one.when i tryed to start it again it started for a few seconds and cut out again.at this stage it was very smokey.so i took off the inlet manifold an took out the injectors and found 2 were blocked so i cleaned them.after that i tested each one and they were all working as they should.i tryed the car again and it ran for a while but still very smokey.i then wound down th afr an dnow the car is ticking over but when i try and rev it it dies down and cuts out.!

any ideas what is wrong with it.??

 

sounds like some form of air leak mate- always worth it with mfi to check for them anyway.

Hey...I have a 1990 xr3i efi and its also a non runner...needs a new fuel pump but im having snags locating the correct fuel pump. Do I need to get a new sender unit as the fuel pump is built in with that? Any help would be amazing! Or a point in the right direction! Cheers!

 

get an ecos pump there more avaliable

pump should be easy to find alof of cars used the efi cvh

 

Cheers for that...managed to get a second hand one which works as you can hear the pressure build when you turn the ignition.
But now I have run into a bigger problem which I believe is with the immobiliser.
Only a couple of times did I get the noise from the fuel pump but now it seems that the immobliser is cutting in. I have the fob but that doesnt seem to do anything?!!?
Also, the battery was quite drained at this stage so could this be a contributing factor?
