what the fooks going on focus tdci
hello some of you have been reading about my massive problems with my focus tdci here is the original link
https://passionford.com/forum/general-car-related-discussion/278426-read-this-on-focus-tdci.html
so as you now this turbo is new but never seemed to come on boost but you could here the turbo spinning up i found out that once you went passed 2500,3000 the turbo kicked in but in first and second it was flat as a fart, i thought the vains could of been stuck closed (vnt)
anyway went to work yesterday and all of a sudden no turbo at all you couldent here it spin up at all, ive just taken both intercooler pipes off and there full of oil? i couldn't believe it!!
ive just spun the impeller and at first it dident feel right it felt a tad tight so i went and felt the impeller on my evo 4 and that as it should , anyway went back to the focus impeller and the second time it felt ok as it should be?
1) what would cause oil in the intercooler pipes when everything is new?
2)is there a problem with the actuater
3)or the vains closed
ive also noticed that the actuater is not moving up and down when you rev it and it used to? and it is attaced to the wastgate
im gona go mad i can fix evo,s and rs,s but this is driving me fooking mad and costing me a fortune im getting to the point were i feel i should just buy a full second hand engine
ok update on this is it finally boosts the problem was the new turbo (vnt) was not set up correctly !! unless you go to garret and that will cost a fortune its very hard for anyone to set a vnt turbo up but as from the end of this month i think turbo technics have built a machine to do this.. the vnt has to be absolutely spot on and with out a machine it cant realy be done , the turbo shop i went to says he buys say 8 brand new garret turbo,s and sets his vnt up to as close to the oem one but the thing is its just not close enough , now he says he has one of these machines on order so as from next year it should not be a problem but if you ever buy a vnt turbo ask them how they set the vains up and if they dont have this machine walk away.. the other thing is i still dont think this turbo is as fast as my oem one set up by garret but it will do.. and couldn't believe that it boosts at 1.2 bar thats the factory set up thought a diesel would be boosting around 0.8 bar , im selling it now and wont buy another tdci just horrible to work on it takes all day just to get the turbo off as its in the back of the engine and the exhaust bolts or a right pain up the arse..hears the link to garret and vnt

i said it sounded like a VNT problem, are they going to compensate you for having the engine taken apart etc?
Its not been decided if TT will even sell the VTR machine in the UK, it was due for release shortly but the date has been put back.
Garrett don't repair VNT turbos, they are only interested in selling new & Garrett dealers are not allowed to repair VNT turbos.
