Default My Fireblade resto. Sold!! Pics of its replacement... R1 (15/08/09)

Right, Im planning to go legit on a bike this year instead of risking getting caught on other peoples bikes. So I decided to get my arse into gear and get something that needed a little tlc I could fiddle with in the cold months.

So last night I bought a 2001/Y Honda Fireblade 929cc. I bought it from a local stunt rider called Graham Aitken who used it for shows so it isnt perfect but has good potential for a nice bike.

Pulled it straight in its new home for now.

Started to take the crash cage off and 12 bar

The tail fairiing has been chopped down for purposes of trickery so off it came

Brother in law lending a hand

Star Boyz disks

The rear sprocket has stars cut in it too and is a 50 tooth iirc. You can make it out in a couple of pics.

Tank and fairings came off too as all could do with replacement due to damage and bits chopped here and there.

Got a list of stuff I want/need for it. Its all cosmetics, mechanically its sweet

Im off up Westgate Road on Saturday for a look about, no doubt Ill end up buyin somethin

Updates as soon as poss

Do you have any other spare bits? I may buy other stuff from you too.

Your bike looks very nice, I had to strip mine straight away or I'd have been out on it

Right, the bug has bit me a bit more. I was going to just replace the fairings and give it a fresh paint job but now Im very tempted to pull the motor out and strip it properly and get the frame powder coated/polished/painted and all other bits too and go a bit bufty on it.

Decisions decisions

Well, it happened......... I decided to take a couple of more bits off.

Ill let the pics do the talking for me.....

Subframe off

Bars and top yoke off

Forks out

Lifted the frame off the motor

Rear disk, starry

Rear sprocket, also starry and in need of a good polish

Swing arm off, need to split chain

Swing arm off

Frame and swing arm off and ready to polish/paint/powder coat or whatever

Think I need a new back wheel

Small pile of bits

I got a spare engine with it too, one that has a hole in the block but gearbox and everything else is fine. Gonna go pick that up too and have the head fiddled with in the summer ready to fit next winter

Next step is to decide what I want to do with it colour wise. Frame & swing arm, plastics etc.

I jhave a few things in mind but any suggestions are welcome.

More updates as progress progresses

Beef I dont hang about when I set my mind to it mate

I need to download photoshop and have a fiddle about with ideas.

The rear sprocket will be replaced with a standard one but Ill keep it for use at a later date along with the fairings that came off it. The 12 bar and crash cage are being kept in Grahams garage for me to use too one Im used to riding it and fancy fuckin about on it

Ad it will be out and about this summer I hope

Great project. For frame, sub-frame and swingarm i'd go black powder-coat. Bodywork I'd go satin black with ghosted honda graphics in matt black. Keeping to a subtle theme but of the menacing kind. Sort of themed on an all-black 2005 blade as seen here http://www.motorsm.com/AUS/bikes/pic...lade_Black.jpg

Can I fuck work photoshop so I give up and Im sticking to my original plan of all black, with maybe some airbrushing done too.

Bought a few bits and pieces for it over the past week. Mirrors, bar ends, levers, rear sprocket, undertray and couple of other odds an sods. Still need plastics and tank and I think thats more or less it. Im sick of looking on Ebay

Cool project, i wouldn't mind doing something like this myself.
Be brave a re-do a wiring loom and stash it in the frame.....it will be hollow right??

Any plastic type bits off to carbon delight......oooooooh send them your fairings aswell, proper job.

Right, a bit of an update on things so far.

I have been abusing the good old Ebay and have got most of the stuff I need now. Next thing is to get the front tyre off the rim and then the frame, subframe, lower engine mount and wheels can be sent off to be coated black.

I still havent decided on colour for it yet, its doin my head in.

Ill get a couple of pics of stuff next time Im down there.

i would get the frame and swing arm done gloss black and get fairings and wheels done the brightest white you can find.
white bikes with white wheels look cool i reckon.

i wouldnt mind a blade for the summer u can pick early ones up for Ł1500 ish.
are they quick ?
daft question really of course they are but are they much quicker than my last bike ( a 91 gsxr750)

Well things have been a bit slow recently, been doing other stuff and kind of put the bike on the back burner. I have still been popping on Ebay collecting fairings and other bits and pieces that I needed if they were priced right and I have had some powder coating done too. Only got a couple of pics tonight on my phone when I nipped down to pick up the plastics so I can take them into work and make a start prepping them for paint. Ill get the other pics off the camera soon and post them up.

Oooooh that looks nice, what do you need to fit that? Everything from a 954 or do you still keep the 929 subframe?

This should help a fair bit
http://firebladeriders.forumotion.co...422b4cc8025be0

You will need
954 subframe, seat unit, undertray, rear light, and a universal bike cable for the seat lock mech

like i said imho its the best thing i have done to the bike looks so much better

if you want any more pics with measurements just ask

Spent a bit of time in the garage the other night polishin me pipe

And then popped down and fitted it once it was back on its wheels.

Its gettin there slowly. The wheels on the above pic are its old flat spotted ones, they were just put on to get it rolling, once its more or less done Ill get the tyres swapped on to its new ones. Well once I find a front wheel anyway...... bloody hens teeth.
I have the footpegs and my steering damper at home in the garage to make a start polishing when I get the chance too

Fairings are getting 10 minutes spent here and there prepping between jobs at work or when I get a minute.
