Default Perspex glass

Ok so the mission for getting my s2 on a diet continues, stripped out interior and looking at perspex from these guys http://www.plastics4performance.com/...D=678&P_ID=486

thats the kit im looking at too, just wondering whether its worth it and how much weight i can actually save!

Do the front windows have the hole in the side to slide open or are they standard up and down units?

Cheers

You want polycarbonate over acrylic really. It's safer.

Oh, you said Perspex. Perspex is a brand name of Acrylic. Lexan is a brand name of Polycarbonate. I guess I should have clicked on the link to find out the truth

i never weighed mine, should have

you will save a LOT 4 sides and a back probabvly weigh the same as a standard rear screen

the sliders in the front, they are a option

i wouldnt use polycarbonate as a normal window (in the winder) it will scratch big time

as Gus said, you'll save a shit load of weight - have you ever tried to carry a tailgate with glass then without the glass?!

it weighs very very little without i can assure you

Also i wouldn't have the perspex/poly windows going up and down, they'll be scratched beyond belief after 5 or so up and down trips

if you wanna keep the winder mechanism i would keep the glass in the front doors

or you could use the sliders (im not a fan of these)

You don't typically keep winders when you go plastic.. that's what the little sliding panel is for on the side!

i'd agree with that, most if not all plastic/poly windows don't wind down, that's what the slider is for and even then that gets scratched to buggery most of the time

i was think of gettin some poly windows for mine, and was thinking of a see though film, or a light tint on them to stop them from scatching. do you think it would help?

If you want the windows to wind up and down then you better check withthe manufacturers that the lexan piece is exactly the same size as the OE glass, some are ony half the size and not designed to use the original mechanism....

I can't see why tinting it would be a problem, would stop it scratching for sure.

you'll struggle to get them tinted with normal tinting film, i know a guy who runs a window tinting company and he told me that the plastic expands at a different rate to the tinting film, it is designed to be used with glas which expands at a very similar rate to glass

i don't know if you can buy a special film for it but mainstream stuff will look poo

i plan on getting polycarb rear quarters and rear window.
but i want to keep my rear quarters opening ones, not sealed. seeing as there is a rubber seal all the way round i dont see why these should rattle etc.?

i would just cut them to the same shape and size of the old glass and put them in the rubbers - some people probably bond them to stop them coming out if they flex, can't say i've ever seen them come out on other cars before.

how thick is the plastic getting used on the windows? surely if they are the same thickness as the glass then they will rattle anyway..there will be toomuch flex and they would move with the vacuum every time you close the door..then if the perspex is thicker is any weight actually saved?

Has anybody who bought them, sinds this thread has no reaction, and knows how much kg you safe with these windows?

Did you guys brought them from plastics4performance? Are the a nice fit? What are the differences between the set of 150 pound and the one of 300 pound?

I weighed the glass rear quarters and the persplex/lexan rear quarters. The differance was 1 kg in favour of the persplex. Not a great amount.I didnt weigh the door glass,so dont know a figure. As well as the scratching, have you lads also considered how easier it is to break into a car with perspex windows???Regards,Micky
