im kinda local to u dude (walsall/great barr area) and ive tried jamsport who i sadly had a few issues with, and PJ's who seems to me is more interested in jap stuff these days
personally, soon as mine is done im off up to NMS, 1 of the only places iv heard nothing but good stories about, plus when i asked for a quotation i got a pleasant and swift response, and the price seems fair too. its not the most local place to us like, but its only like hour n half away

im positive NMS quoted £150, but cant remember if thats inclusive of VAT or not, cnt find the bloody email off ollie now lol
its a little more than what iv paid elsewhere, but its peace of mind knowing they have so many happy regular customers, running all the different types of management

if they do a good job it will be worth it but there are loads of companys out there that will do a good job alot of companys will have a few bad set ups you just got to ignore some peoples opinions and go for someone you trust with a good rep
if u really dont want to travel
id say PJ motorsport
ok in my eyes i get the feeling his target market is now more jap stuff, but i know he built and set up my mates ERST a good few years back, and it was always good work, so he does have the know how and the skill, least thats a bit of peace of mind
think he charges around 120ish maybe

thats exactly what im saying dude, i get on real well with them, bought all my engine rebuild parts from them, great service, even sorted all my block and crank machining etc, but for a set up, im same as you, id prefer some1 whos heart is still really into it
PJ is a decent fella, always helpfull and willing to talk for 5 on the phone, he looked after my mate who owns my old saph really well. Im brum too and hes only half hour away. Without slating jamsport in any way/shape/form, ive heard of a few who will never darken their doorway again. Ive never used either myself.

i knw like i said ive new pj since i was 17 he rebuilt my rs turbo cab for me then,i go down to see every 1 every now and then and i can not fault them, its just even he will tell u he prefers jap now
just be straight to the point, do you want the work or not tell him you want him to do the work, he will till be making money outta it, and in present economic issues he should bare this in mind
im gonna take mine to torque of the devil for a set up as ive heard good things. tempted by nms, as there clearly serious bout what they do. and id love one of there coolers peeping through my bumper too lol.
from personal experience i will never take my car anywhere near jamsport ever again.

I wasnt happy with jamsport personally, didnt like the way it drove after the set up, i took it to harvey gibbs (SCS) about a week after, and ill be going back there. my S2 is a much nicer car to drive now harvey sorted it.
from some off the things i've seen this week don't think i'll be back to jamsport again and a shame as he's worked hard to build his company up hope the corners being cut are rectified and i can say sorry as he seems like a good bloke
i have had my s2 set up by tuners over the years and to be fair to all it always runs better. id say make your own choice and if your not happy with the results speak to the tuner then.after all your own opinion cant be biased.....all the people that say there not happy etc etc then why did tou pay them?????......
iv never really aired my views on jamsport, cos i wasnt too chuffed with my car after, but i spoke to jamie over the phone, and respect to the guy, he made it clear the issue wasnt so much with the work he did, but the communication between the dude in the office, and himself, basically im being told im paying for something, and then jamie is simply told to do something else
if it was just jamie i could go and deal with, id more than likely happily go for more work, but it only takes 1 bad experience to leave doubt in your mind
after a visit there, my car spent half its life boost cutting and overfuelling like a pig, i paid to have my turbo elbow and centre housing repaired as some bolts stripped, and all that was done was a couple of bolts were stuffed back in meaning they soon fell out, did yet more damage, leaving my turbo holding together with 1 bolt. oh and my headgasket failed not many miles after
but like i say, a lot of the issue was caused by bad communication, and it cant be because jamie doesnt know what hes doing, cos lets face it, hes proven he can build top notch cars/motors
thats as honest and fair as i can be about my experience there

Motorsport Developments!
Travelled from Reading to go there, excellent service! So much more thorough than the other tuners, they give it a full once over not just a couple of goes on the rolling road.

On oddkiddcreations.co.uk there is a massive guide on how to set the engine up for yourself.
have a look
http://www.oddkiddcreations.co.uk/vi...php?f=5&t=4132
This was put together in a fail safe way incase your engine is not in a decent setup configuration to get it to a tuner in the first place.
Have a look and see if it will help before having to drive to a tuner that is gonna ripp you off. charging anything over £75 is a liberty if you ask me as an ERST does not have that much you can setup to charge more than that.
Danny.

I suppose that really depends on whether £70,000 worth of Dyno was used to set it up or if it was just ragged up the road with a lambda probe hanging out the exhaust.
The end result is the same, if not better when done on the road with the correct equipment as its being used in real life situations with correct airflow and temps etc..
In that case i would rather pay the correct amount for what the job is worth compared to X tuner who charges £££'s more because of their expensive toys that they need to pay for. Even when done on the rolling road when taken out on real road the setup done by the tuner may not be what the car needs to be able to put the power down or may not be how the customer wants etc etc..
For this reason when done on the road with the customer in the car either driving or holding on to the equipment like laptop and gauges or meters etc. You get much better feedback for the changes that have been made part throttle, on and off boost, driving hard through gears, comming to a standstill from high revs, idle etc etc... These things are hard to get right when on the rollers without the right airflow and drag friction etc etc..
IMO a rolling road is great for being able to do long jobs quicker and also diagnois problems quicker when compared to the next tuner without a rolling road for obvious reasons. If you need to adjust anything when out on the road you need to go back to HQ each time, when on the rollers you just get out and do what needs to be done probly quicker than the wheels stop spinning on the rollers.
Lots of my past cars have been on rollers and obviously setup on the road too..
When compared i will always choose the real road tune over the rollers.
This is only my thoughts after having spent ££££'s on tuning over the years to find out the hard way.
