Default Why does my oil cap blow off?

I have a chrome rocker cover, with a chrome oil cap. Should there be a kind of gasket/ rubber thinggy on there to keep the cap on? I was driving yesterday with no bonnet on (private road) and I could see the cap blow off!

Blocked breather
Try cleaning the breather pipes, could be the cap itself, when mine did this i upgraded to a bailey oil breather, it has never done it since

When you ut the cap on and off the rocker does it have any resistance? If there isn't there should be. A new cap from ford is less than a fiver. If you have checked the cap and that is fine then look at all the breathers and see if they are kinked or bloked. Failing that it could be headgasket or rings. Mine blew off down santa pod and my headgasket went a few miles after lol

Id say it's that chrome oil cap it should have a rubber gasket inside to hold it on. Ive seen them on ebay and alot of them dont have the gasket!!

I have a feeling it will be the oil cap being no good

Does sound like a blocked breather to me. They run from the Rocker cover to the inlet manifold, sump, and metering unit.

I agree, you may have excess crankcase compression if the rings havent fully bedded in but yes, by all means check the breathers etc

That 1 from the right hand side of the rocker is a bit of a ball ache to get off! All clean anyway. I'll try and get a genuine oil cap and try that
