Currently on the hunt for a new King Size bed for home and seen a few of the TV beds where a smallish LCD TV electronically lifts from the base of the bed. Price wise they are ridiculous at over £2800 for just the bed, whereas the bed on its own without the TV nad mechanism would only be about £600. Surely it can't be 'that' difficult to make your own lifting mechanism? Quite fancy giving it a bash!!
I have a friend who's a leather trimmer so making it look like its part of the bed isnt an issue, my only query is what kind of mechanicals / motor is needed to power the lift/base/TV up and down? Any ideas?!!

You could do it with a couple of electric window regulators quite easily but as said by the ladyboy above, have a look on AV Forums and see some of the floating wall set-ups, they look much better imo and you can get a bigger screen
you need either linear actuators and a locking mechanism for silent lifting or a worm drive and scissor mech for a simple install .
worm drive's can be found on old electric seat runners (scorpio or rover 800) if you really want to try it

I would prefer to have a larger TV on the wall but where the bed is the only wall suitable has big fitted wardrobes so a no no!!! On the end of the bed is the only option really.
can i buy linear actuators or worm drive thingies from normal shops, or is it a matter of scrapyard challenge to find something suitable?!!!! (bearing in mind it has to be 240v!)

I've got visions of this going horribly pear shaped and a worm drive suddenly appearing through the bottom of the bed in the middle of a hot steamy romp inbetween you & your missus!!!!
