Just got a visit from my granddad with his netbook, it seems he's gone and broken it!

He says he was using it yesterday and all of a sudden the screen went blank?

he said he turned it off and turned it back on but nothing happened!

I have tried everything to get it working again but know nothing about linux,

Basically when you press the button it goes through the post fine it loads the blue acer one screen then instead of showing the user interface it shows a black screen with a white and black cursor, the hdd light flashes as if its loading so it seems the ssd is fine.

so what do you guys think?

 

on the keyboard there should be a key marked "Fn" (stands for Function) amongst the F keys along the top F1 F2 etc there should be one with the symbol of a screen on. normally round F9 F10.

Press Fn+F10 (or whatever the screen key is) - if nothing happens press it again.

what this does is switches the screen from laptop to external VGA

he's either switched the scren -easy fix

it's a hardware issue - £££
