whats the best suspension for this model of focus its 1.6zetec its not my car its the sisters car she whats to fit lowering springs but i told her a suspension would be better what would be the best springs and shocks to go for?


and how much should it be lowerd?

Depends on what she is after.

Handling....looks....how low??

I have had a set of Gmax 30mm springs on stock shocks. Ride was ok sat far to high. then went onto some Spax 50mm springs. sat lower but ride was crap.

Now have Gaz Coil overs. Dropped about 65mm good thing is they are damping adjustable so ride can be hard or soft or 1 of 30 odd settings!!

I'd go for coilovers personally but they are ALOT more than a normal lowering kit.

Eibach are a good kit. or i'd go for spax.

Coilovers are too hard core for normal road use,due to our shite quality road surface.

I'd go for Eibach springs,they make the handling a bit better,improves the looks and keeps the ride quality good.

I've had Eibach on almost all my cars and can't fault them,got Eibach/Sachs set up on my RS and its spot on.

Oh and try Ford for the Eibach springs,thats where i got all mine from i found them to be cheaper than anywhere else.

PS. How dodgy is your sis's reg number? lol

That depends on how they are set. coilovers dont have to be low as poss or hard as poss.

can be set to your preference.

the number plate is an irish one so it may be legal??? or not!!

apex shocks and springs on my st170, handles great and ride is nice and thats with 18" wheels.

I'd go for a set of Eibach Pro Springs and leave it at that for the road

i run with gaz coilovers on mine and as you say i dropped it untill i was happy then swapped from 225 down to 215 tyres and set the suspension for comfort at 10 clicks up from soft and for track days take it up to 20 clicks for a bumpy circuit like croft or airfeilds and 25 clicks for billiard smooth oulton park and brands and donnington

and the ride hieght is up to you with them too and i got mine for £200 which is a bargin

On a 1.6 Coilovers are way way too OTT.

Get a full kit with just a nice 30mm drop from any Decent brand will be an improvement, Koni, Spax etc.

why are coilovers ott on a 1.6?

my opinion is they do the job just great mine are the adjustable ones with bound and rebound adjustment in one, and ride height is fully adjustable so you just turn a big nut and the car lowers or raises to the exact height you want and offer matched dampers so you dont wreck and overwork your standard dampers by sitting the car lower

In my humble opinion most (and I say most not all) people will simply want to improve the overall look of the car and slightly improve the ride quality...

Again in my humble opinion most people would prefer to simply fit and forget and not wish to adjust there suspension...
Agreed Coilovers are the ultimate suspension upgrade, but it's for the guys sister and she wants a pretty simple upgrade. A full set up from the likes of Spax, Koni etc who spend millions of pounds on development and produce kits made specifically for the vehicle will be in my opinion be far more than adiquate for her needs.

If you want an allround solution then a set of Eibach 35mm lowering springs will be absolutely fine and won't cost the earth.

If, on the other hand, you want the bestest of the best kit because you're going racing then can I suggest something like the Bilstein PSS9 kit (if they are available anymore) which is a phenominal bit of kit.

My Focus has Koni adjustables/coilovers because I did track days/racing in mine. My missus' 1.6 Focus is lowered on a set of Eibachs and they have improved the handling immensly without affecting the overall ride quality (on shitty British roads) a huge amount.

I had a set of eibachs, didn't like them. I think you should always get matched springs and dampers. had some spax adjustables. They were fully adjustable from hard to..... solid, got rid of em fast! Then got a set of gmax 55mm lowering kit. It was cheap, looks ace and handles like a kit worth many hundreds more. In fact the only thing better was the Bilstein pss9 kit I had, and that was about 5 times the price at about a grand.

Gmax all the way lad! Cant beat it for the money. Bloody brilliant!

How did you get em for £200???? Group buy? There bloomin good them kits!
