The easiest thing you could do gaz is to have a look on here http://www.moneysupermarket.com/util...ectricity.aspx
When your filling out the form set British Gas as your current supplier and set yourself as a medium user.
I know that we moved from British Gas to Scottish Electric or something and saved quite alot of money.

Me and the Mrs Bought our first house a year ago, it had been empty for a while and it was with n power and shitty card meter, we changed to E-on, we get dual fuel discont and also online discount as we dont have paper bills etc, all done online. we get a real good deal i think, Cant remeber exact figures though lol.
Scottish and southern are quite reasonable too

I had this problem a few months ago! Me and my bf planned to move in together, found a house etc etc, so before we moved in we tried to get some quotes but it is so difficult!! They wanna know how much electricity and gas you are gonna use averagely and we had no idea!! We are going to get our first bill through in December.
Were with NPower at minute but after this bill I think I'm going to switch cos we will have an idea of what we are using (even though you use more in winter).
We haven't set up a direct debit either in case we get charged too much (they tried to charge us based on the last occupants usage!! which was a woman, and 2 kids) Me and my partner both work and I'm also at Uni, I'm hardly in the house and he's only in at night, so we don't use that much.
My Uni friends who have been with British gas a few years now say they found them the best if you can get on the right tariff!

Go dual fuel and DD for best deals
Also, you can challenge the amount you pay each month. Im with Scottish&Southern (southern Electric) and the hiked the gas price by £14 (40%) per month.
I was on the phone straight away asking them to put it back. You are entirely in your right to do this. It's advisable to be realistic though and not pay them £5 per month and end up with £1k bill at the end of the year
Just do it so that you are £5 in debt or credit.
Also take your own meter readings. It takes 5mins and will give you an accurate bill.

the house was completed today so me and the missus got the keys and went up there about an hour ago and it appears the electric is on. bearing in mind and this is a new build so either the builder is gonna pay our electric for us or im gonna get a nice friendly bill at the end of the month. anyone know if builders do this to warm up the house for the first time or something???
