Default higher torque starter motor????????

brought a escort s2 on sunday. MINT. has been bored out to a 1.9. stuggles to bludy start, so annoying. when running the engine is sweet as a nut.

battery went flat and when RAC man came and jumpstarted it, it still took longer to start. drove it for atleast 45mins. left it for a few hours and tried it agen. SAME THING, struggled to start

think it might need a high torque starter motor.

eny suggestions or what starter motor i could use.

????????????????????

I very much doubt you need a starter motor with more torque, I would have thought compression ratio would determine torque required, not engine size.

well i know a family who builds engines.

they bore out a 2.0l pinto engine i think to a 2.2-2.3l and they need higher torque starter motor to fire it up.

so????

use your multimeter to check it out.

Also use it to test the alternator charging as well.

How old is the starter?? could just be getting old/cooked too much etc

They are a very useful tool to help diagnose electrical issues on cars.

You can cook starter motors quite easily even if new. Done that to a crappy cheap starter fitted to my rs1800 within a few months.

Yep and the Pinto proberly runs 12-13:1 compression ratio where as your RS will be around 9:1, or lower. Dont waste your money on a high touque starter.

any motor factors should be able to sort you out.

Just cause the starter looks good from the outside doesn't tell you anything about the internals...

The engine may still be tight ?, I have seen this a lot, on modded cars, where starting is ok till an engine change then extra urge needed for new engine is the last straw, and slowly gives up, had it on my dads xr4i, when we changed 3.5 for 4l, as 4l was new and tight same thing.
I would first though clean up all connections, then check charge rate, do discharge test on battery, it may just need new brushes or a clean out of the starter, but as said these are famous for cooking starters.
If it was ignition it would tend to kick back when turning on starter, and pink as well once started, but only a strobe light away from fixing, if that, which I don't think it is.
