Hello - I have an Escort 55 TD van and want to fit the standard Ford intercooler to it and wondered if this was a straight fit without too much hassle!?? Can't see as the internals of the TD and Tdi engines are any different................

 

you can fit the intercooler straight to your TD but it wont make any noticeable difference to power

the get the power increase you need the TDI fuel pump and ideally the turbo as well

the internals are the same in the TD and TDI lump

 

So the actual turbo and fuel pump on the TDi lump are different then - can understand the pump, but the turbo??

 

the turbos were different but its not essential as you can just increase the pressure of the TD turbo with a bleed valve or adjusting the actuator rod

chances are you wouldn't need to though , its the fuel pump that makes the power not the turbo , all the turbo does is force extra air into the engine to "dilute" the exhaust smoke
