as above put a clutch in the series 1 last week re connected the speedo cable and it didnt work so i i took it back out and tried puttin it back in again worked for a bit but stopped again ive had the clocks out its connected in there properly and when you spin the cable by hand the speedo moves any ideas?

 

sounds like the ring gear in the box mate which is what the speedo runs off. If you have fucked that you need to have you box rebuilt.

 

The speedo going is usualy a sign of a broken box mate, they go then the rest of the box goes, good luck

Out of four fords I have had this problem. But none of them have been terminal. but to be on the safe side you need it re-building. Or just swap the box.

 

but surley the box cant go just goin down the road at 5 mph plus it was a rebuilt box less than 7 mths ago and its not noisey could it just be the speedo drive ?

 

Lol, yeah kinda but i was just highlighting the fact that it aint just the speedo that goes the whole box will be shortly after!

Lol yeah, try get 5th gear off with a hammer and chisel , anyway i dont use an S2 Box i use the mtx75 RS2000 Box in my MK5, they are much stronger and ive got a quafe LSD unit on its way

 

I have two mk4 xr3i boxes about if you need em just need to take it out of the car.

but a 1.6 derve is supposed to be the bettetr choice!

 

Sometimes it's just speedo drive gear that goes and nothing else. Take the speedo gear out and have a look at it. The small rectangular hole in the center, into which the cable goes, can easily go round and result in problems similar to what you described.
