I probably wouldnt change the wings either as its just to change the look of the car and is all bolt on. maximum impact minimum effort, could all be pit back in a mater of hours if you sourced another tailgate

You just had comment didnt you... Have to agree though, if you're going WRC look it needs to be proper with the front arches.

But if they look odd without the front arches done, surely they look odd with only the fronts done and not the rears?

The proper original steel wings were beaten out standard wings, there's plenty of people who can do this, I'm sure any decent panel beater would be more than capable......

All the steel wings are, are standard ones hand beaten into shape by a very clever man in this country . Send him your wings, and he will do them .

I know its not hard to do mate, and i know you have done yours.

Are the wings welded in place or are the just bolt on out of interest?

Had my wings done about 2+ years ago and although I love them I would not put them on another escos. Nothing wrong with the standard ones and in my opinion (but they are needed to complete the wrc look otherwise the car doesn’t have the right stance). If anyone is thinking of making their own wrc style wings they would need more than a hammer and dolly as more steel is added to the front of the wings but its far from rocket science. Could make up some templates if it helps.

the guy you mention Steven is the guy that does them indeed - he homologates rally cars

but as many people above think its just a case of beat them into a bubble shape - the wings are actually flared quite a bit wider aswell, and this has to stretch the rest of the wing to do so, so all the mounting points have to be cut off and re-welded on at different angles on spacer mounts, and new fixings to allow the wings to pull into shape.

then the front of the wings become extremely tight to get the headlights and the small side light sections to fit correctly.

although its very easy to change the wings, it will take a day or so of mild fettling to get everything to fit snug and happily again.

Kelv,

Not being funny pal, but what does "he homologates rally cars" mean? is he the FIA?

And why is everybody talking like "he's" a mythical beast...

The company who did the original cars is ACS Engineering in Maldon...

Gordon Vincent, who with his brother runs ACS is the most down to earth man you'd ever meet, they operate on cars to achieve whatever object is need i.e. they make the front and back wings wider to accomodate a wider track.....the raise the inner wings to accomodate more suspension travel on the lower tarmac cars, they install the lateral linked rear end to eliminate bump steer, improve traction and allow easier adjustment....etc etc

The way they go about all these mods is with a degree of accuracy but the looks are definately a secondary consideration.....their work however is second to none.....but there are other people who can do the front wing mod....

The headlights dont fit because the Grp'a' and WRC car were never designed to run with either standard or Morettee style lights....the lights along with the indicators are created in one piece....

personally i couldn't bring myself to play with my rear qtrs and wings unless they are in a bit of a state as its going to be hard to put back to standard if you change your mind

as sibbster says gordon vincent is the name you see when talking about proper escort wrc bodyshell prep, he did the puma works wide arch cars too for ford
