I had a nightmare trying to replace the leaking one on mine.

In the end I bought a kit designed for the 4wd cossie (none ford) of ebay and adapted that to fit.

Failing that just disconnect them and run the turbo with no water cooling. As long as you dont turn off with the turbo is red hot you will be fine!

Yeah there is no need for it, so long as you let the turbo cool down before you turn the engine off.
Lots of people disconect the water pipes because it make a big diffence to the water temp and helps keep the engine cooler.

If the turbo has been designed to use both water and oil to cool it then thats how it should be, otherwise the turbo will run a lot hotter than it should and overheat the oil!!!!!

ones that dont have water pipes use the oil to keep them cool,so they dont need them, water cooled ones need water to keep them cool

I wouldn't be overly concerned about getting the pipes made up, T series turbos can and will run quite happily without the water cooling.
I did nearly 20k on my old T3 without water pipes on and its still mint.
Just make sure you don't turn off while the turbo's red hot and you'll be sound

The reason ford make them water cooled is to help with muppets turning the car off when the turbo is red hot. As the S2 was meant to be a mass produced everyday car, the additional heat absorbed by the engine from cooling the turbo can be relatively easliy dealt with compared with the potential for mass warrently claims!

Things will be VERY different as soon as the boost goes up the cooling system cannot cope! Probably the reason the S1 never had the water cooling core as it was designed with motorsport intentions.

The very reason my T61 does not have water cooling is the the fact I would need a rad the size of the front of the car to cool it LOL! But it would add a silly amount of additional heat to an already stressed cooling system.
