Default Harness Engineering LTD, Ian Baxter or Spot/Spotter (UPDATE AT BOTTOM OF P2)

UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM OF PAGE 2. PLEASE READ.

In June (I think) I gave Ian a job of assembling a wiring loom for me using a Life F88RS ECU. I paid him for the ECU and sent him £1200 worth of sensors for him to set up on the ECU.

Since around 6 weeks ago, I haven't been able to make contact with him for one reason or another. Now it would appear that his phone is permenantly off.

Does anyone know how to get hold of him or have any contact details for him before I drive to Essex and camp on his driveway?

I have his address and his mobile number (which appears to be always off now). I also have a land line which appears to be for an old address in Southend on Sea (unless he has migrated that number to Rettendon).

Any help is much appreciated!!

Yes Mark, he has about £2900 worth of my equipment! That excludes the loom which he was meant to be completing about 2 month ago.

I hope he does re appear. Difficult isn't the word!!

Thanks for any help so far.

I'm sure it will all come good, if not I'm going to feel bad as I told you to go to him

His phone is switched off rather than cut off so it might be worth sending a text.

i hate people who dont keep in touch, irrelevant of how long the jobs going to be, just a courtesy call is all it takes, 30 seconds just to say it will be next month, or an email, i can never stress enough to my staff that people will accept the truth/or lies as long as they are kept in the picture, its when no one tells them whats hapening that revs customers beyond control.

How long does he go sailing for? His phone will have been off for 3 weeks this week end!

Prior to that he wouldn't answer his phone for 3 weeks. I got a text saying he is at Bath University in lectures all week then I got nothing after that!

I'll send him a text as you suggest Martin. I am just getting a little impatient with not being kept in the picture and the length of time it's taking. I'm not expecting him to shit a loom out of his arse in his dinner break but I'd like to think he would have made some progress in 4 months. nearly 2 months wouthout hearing anything!!

Mark. I agree 100%. My customers are kept informed weather they want to be or not. I haven't got time to be dealing with irrate customers with my current work load. It's better to not piss them off in the first place.

Thanks for all the help people. I've had some leads sent to me that I can try to at least find out if people have heard from him recently.

There are plenty of other good loom makers out there, like the one I use, doing a last minute rush job, for customer as customer was let down by someone else.

I know Ian through his Anglia and he's always come across as a top guy and I am sure would never intentionally bump you.

Saying that if anyone does need a loom doing a customer of mine does wiring on some very nice stuff, mainly race cars as well as mapping ECU's.

He's North Essex, PM for details

Bit of an update on this....

He switched his phone on at the beginning of December and I managed to collar him. He promised that the loom would be with me before Xmas. Xmas came and no phone call to say the loom was ready. So 5th of January and I was back on the phone. It rang out about 3 times and he didn't answer any of the times I rang . Gave up in the end. Tried to ring back the next day and his phone was off again and has been since.

I'm quite placid but this is begining to wear me down now.

As stated he still has a £1700 ECU of mine and about £1000 in sensors and stuff....

I'm going to end up driving down there with a few mates and setting up camp on his front lawn....

Anybody been in contact with him recently?

I feel a little cheeky ringing around his customers to track him down....

Wouldn't it be easier to knock on the door? Rather than traveling all that way for an uninvolved neighbour to have you arrested.

I suppose you could try writing him a letter. It's a bit more formal, especially if you send it recorded delivery. You could give him 14 days to respond to your enquiry which is reasonable.

It's often forgotten on the internet that not everyone is next day this next day that or even contactable 24x7, however this case is a little extreme

Yes! That was going to be my next step. I was going to get a few things sorted out for my engine first then knock up a letter ad send it special delivery giving him 14 days to ring me.

I also know he does work for Myerscough College for their motorsport division as I know someone who knows one of the tutors within the college so may try and provoke a reaction that way...

It's going to come to it I think. I just have no way of knowing when he is in so I'll be taking a week off work and staying around the area for a week away and to try and acquire my belongings back.

If I can't sort it, I'll send him a letter to warn him that I plan on going down this route if nothing happens soon.

Martin, you had no way of knowing that he was going to mess me around. Don't blame yourself. He does talk the talk but just doesn't seem to walk it afterwards. I know I am not the only one who has been waiting for ages for him to produce a loom. It's just irritating that he couldn't just say, sorry I'm too busy instead of taking on a job he doesn't seem interested in doing.

Anything you can do to help rattle him would be most appreciated though Martin. Thanks.

Spot has done the work on my looms and can be a pain in the arse to get hold of! I need him to come and finish my pump looms which to be fair to the guy, he has offered to do for free if I ply him with beer and pizza for a day. He only lives up the road from me.

I totally understand your concern and dont blame you one bit for being so annoyed! I will say that he is NOT a theif or con artist, just a very busy guy! Sounds like others are shouting louder than you at the moment. You stuff will be safe, that I am very sure of! I would try a week of just calling every day and leaving a polite message explaining your concern, and ask for firm dates or you would like safe return of your goods!

Try the firm but polite and fair route, even if you are being what you think is a pain in the arse! Still no answer within a week, then its time to take serious steps.

Jimbo, not the case with my loom. This has been going on since June and I am losing all patience with his games of switching the phone off when he can't be arsed to talk to me.

Ratboy!! His phone is OFF with NO answer phone!! If he had an answer phone it'd be full of my voice, my mates voices and my work colleagues voices who are all itching to give him abuse!

If I had a chance to shout loud, I'd be shouting loud. I tried 2 months of calling last time he pulled this trick and his phone was off continuously!! I have no issues with being a pain in the arse by harrassing him for dates, he just never delivers then switches his phone off. It's been off since the 6th on Jan and is still off now (I just checked).
