Default Advice on getting a decent size shed in Aberdeenshire

Hello

I'm looking to get a decent size shed to store my cars in, Im using alot of my folks space at home and think it's time to move some things away from here to give them there garage back.

I would need something that would hold 3/4 cars and that is dry, clean and safe. I like to keep my cars clean so preferably a good road to the shed would also be a plus.

What's the best way to go about this as I've been looking for ages?

Yeah he said that.

I've got a 1990 Mercery Grey Rs Turbo, 1989 Mini 30, cavalier turbo and the saff.

Is it purely for storage? I know of a place up beside mintlaw that my folks keep their caravan in, it's an old converted barn I think and it's only about £200 a year. Might be a bit of a pain in the a$$ though if you're looking for somewhere closer.

are these purely to store and leave there or do you need access frequently? my uncle owns a farm VERY close to you and could maybe help but access dependant. he stores caravans too but they are outside...

Build a timber framed cartlodge/grarage.

We built a very basic storage shed last year for a regular customer last christmas. I'll pop out and take a picture of it for you to see the size and style. The labour and materials came to around £7K i think. Its bricked on footings up to over site, then simple 4"x2" frame and hand cut roof.

Its fully wired up, boarded and plastered, and the windows wernt cheap either, so probalby a cartlodge this size id say about £6k.

Heres a pic of my cart lodge, just to give u an idea untill i get a pic of the one im one about.

On the other hand, we have also constructed i think 6 "flat pack" buildings from sweden. basically they are just giant 3d jigsaw puzzles. quality is very good.

you just need to screed a level floor base and away you go. but from memory id say an equivelant one to the size above and that u require for 4 cars, id say just the flat pack would come in at over 10k! then you have concrete and labour on top.

The beauty of these tho is you can avoid planning as they are seen as a non permamant structure.

So basically unless your perpared to spend at least 5k+, i dont think your going to get anything that you want.

A lot of people i have seen just buy the small marquees (sp?) which each one could hold 2 cars. I know someone in the village whos restoring a 2WD saff and a Vw camper van in one!!
You can pick these up for about £300 each for the 2 car size.
May be your best bet, if moneys tight, and also dont forget you can take these with you if you move!!
heres a massive one, tho it would be cos its american!

I'm on the blower to the planners as we speak.

Lee, any advice with regards to a simple 20m x 10m shed, prob in steel?
Got lots of quotes, but wwwwaaaaayyyyy over my budget.

Stephen, if you need space, then I could store outside only for anoo....that is unless I build a shed to held them and you pay rent. Must be long enough to cover the cost of the shed of course.

Steel - Well its not gna be cheap. A wooden equivelant will be far cheaper and easier.

only steel thing you may find for that, is either some sort of flat pack corigated galvanised unit. a bit like the wodden link in the post above from rich170.

At the other end of the scale. i know a few people who buy or rent the articulated lorry shipping containers. easily fit 2 or 3 small cars in them! not room to work on, but for sealed storage they are good!
ive seen discoverys and landrover in them so an escort say, will fit on worries!

If your in talks with the planner, then i assume you intend to do something at least semi permant?

Have you considered building a simple traditional bricked gararge?
i could work out a very rough price, including all the legalality costs.

But basically as said you will be lucky to get anything half decent for less then £5k. other than that the best option is the marquees, id say buy far the most cost effective and half way conpromise if moneys tight and the only concern is keeping the cars dry and protected!

Let me know if you get any more info on it, would still be ok for during the day at weekends. Is it a clean road to it?

Yeah it went to a guy in Aberdeen.

It a G plate, 90 spec with 69k miles, every Mot etc, standard apart from lowering springs and a scorpion exhaust, Merc grey, she was a real minter!
