Default Astra VXR

drove my mates on saturday and got to say i thaught it was a cracking car and really enjoyed the drive of it, I'm even thinking about selling the evo and getting one now.

i know people go on about how they handle but bloody hell my mates knows how to drive it especially after its just been remapped, nothing like the old FWD turbo cars of old.

Had a bit of race on with a ST and made it look like it was going backwards.

my mates got the nurberg version and they do go very well, if you take the pre cat out you get a lovely pop between gears were it just dumps excess fuel in.

there was pictures of a mk5 last year in total vauxhall that had a rear diff on and was seen leaving the nurberg i think it was so vauxhall/opel have tried and tested one about time they did a replacement of the cavy's and calibra's

4wd vauxhalls ARE coming soon, the new epsilon 2 platform is fully developed now, and is adaptable to both 2wd and 4wd.
The insignia is coming out with 4wd next year, and will be 300bhp or so.

I suspect an astra will follow relatively soon after.

Engines will include the mighty vectra vxr 2.8 v6 turbo, and it will come with an LSD option too.

Vauxhall arent dicking around these days, shame ford wont take the lead, they have most of the technology they need in the volvo range!

No worse than the ST really.

Both of them are shameful in not coming with an ATB diff as standard though, focus rs style.

All FWD drive cars will if you drive them like Clarkson drove the Astra. He hates Vauxhall; don't listen to him.

personally the VXR is actually a better looking car than the focus ST.

if i had the choice i'd choose the astra in blue with the optional 19's, cos they look the nuts.

would be happy to replace my FRS with that.

Don't know why people compare the VXR range to ST's? ST's are not really out and out performance cars, the VXR's are. Wait til some RS's come out and you'll et fair comparisons.

They compare them as they are equivalent models, neither is an out and out performance car and both are similarly priced and targetted as the same market.

In what way in your opinion is the astra compromised as a road car either in terms of refinement of cost in order to gain performance that the ST isnt?

IMHO vauxhall are enjoying their position at the moment relative to ford in the fast road market, so I agree that they wont let it slip away easily.

I still think the original RS is the best hot hatch out at the moment.

id have a mk1 focus RS over a VXR anyday of week
but i do think the newer vauxhalls are looking pretty funky compared to the old abortions
that new focus RS looks mint in bluei think they shouldve been a bit more adventurous with the wheels though

Hmmm, people don't seem to realise how well modern fwd cars handle

That mk2 frs above is absolutely gorgeous, but I couldn't get one as it'd be slower than the fez

astra vxr's are nice but when I drove one it felt very spongy and vague going into corners and seemed to roll quite alot, i've not driven a vxr nurburg though, although I idd have a play with one the other day and it went backwards

he was very surprised when we got to the next set of lights!

Oh I know, I was just saying. If I was in the market for a hot hatch you can buy I would go for the Focus, even though the Astra is better looking.

Sorry for the confusion. I meant buy new. I was reffering to the ST and the VXR. Focus RS is better looking than both put together.

We've had a few Focus STs and they look cracking value for money around the Ł10k mark! [I know there's cheaper, but the last one I had was a 3 door ST in blue, basic spec but an 06 plate for Ł9999!]

Only had one Astra VXR and I have to admit, it seemed a better car all round imho! Would love some more as it sold straight away!

well i think i made my mind up and the evo is going for a VXR.

was surprised at how good the VXR was, so the hunt is on for a Arden blue 05 - 55 with 19's

had a insurance qoute on one and it came back at more than half the price of the evo and most of my driving is on motorways so a car with a 6 gears should save me a bit aswell.

Sorry should have phrased my post better, what i mean is the ST is compromised compared to the RS model - ie its supposed to be more of a comfy cruiser type thing.

As far as i'm aware the VXR is the top range VX performance model and should be compared to the rs? I'm probably wrong as usual

must admit though on the optional 19's they look stunning!! and as said above with the pre-cat took out they do sound awesome!!

I think the current VXRs are fantasic looking cars (I've never been in one, let alone driven one!) To be honest Ford simply has nothing to compare to the VXR range today.
