Default Insurance for previously disqualified driver

Hi

Someone I know has asked me to find out about getting car insurance for a Cosworth - however he has been banned for the past 14 years..... He knows he will have a really silly high premium to pay, but that's life!

Any recommendations?

no chance. although technically you only have to declare convictions from the previous 5 years so if he was banned 14 years ago.....
i was once banned for 4 years for doing 132 . when i got my licence back it came back clean as the points and ban are removed 4 years from the date of conviction.

But did your licence not mention that you had been banned? He will be resitting his test.

He works at my garage, we have full traders but I know that they wont touch him on our social/domestic list of drivers and I might have trouble getting him covered for our van etc

he must have killed a group of nuns standing at a bus stop on a day outing with the local orphanage kids to get banned for 14 years

LOL -no, one silly incident followed by being caught twice on the road - 5, 5 and then 6 years - but good change of getting it back 2 years early this time as he has been good.....

your best best is what ever is cheapest for a normal driving history will be cheapest for your mate and that basically means getting it on a classic/cherished policy and limit the miles

Mine is with HIC. It comes down quite a bit (proportionally that is!) once you have built up the NCB on the cherished policy mine halved in 5 years of building up on that policy

Have you tried setting up a separate traders policy for him with only his name on it?

is he telling you the whole story? to get that long a ban theres a hell of a lot more to it.much more than 1 siilly incident anyway. there was much more in my case that got me the 4 years ban, not just the speeding.
that was in the early 90's though for me , probably about the same time as your man.

to be honest, if he has been banned for something bad, well bad enough for a 16 year ban lol, getting insured on anything is going to cost him.

i was banned for 1 month back in 2000, and i was getting quotes of £1500 for a 950cc mini, or £1700 for a 205 gti... glad i never got a peice of shit mini lol

so therefore, he may find a 1.0l corsa wont be much cheaper than an m5 bmw etc... so i hope hes been saving up for the last 14 years lol and goes for the m5

it was orginally a 5 year ban for an accident - not going to go into details. however since then the idiot got caught twice for driving - although one time did involve a police traffic car writing itself off as it ploughed into a 30mph sign (about a mile behind the car it was trying to catch!).

You sure??? £1200 & 22 is good going for someone with a clean license, let alone two big bans!

As above, sometimes the way premiums are loaded it means he's going to pay for the ban then the car. It might work out he would pay 2k on a mini and only 2700 on an m5 or something. I found this when i was younger.

How much does having had license revoked on medical grounds increase the insurance once youve got license back????
