basically looking to into stiffing up the shell, just wondered how much of a deficit I would have over a your usual 909/base model shell with no hole in the roof.

i.e is it still going to be worth it.............

I would say your roof having a sunroof fitted would be stiffer than one without. However the added weight is where a deficit would come into play.

Structually the roof is mererly a skin on to the structrual areas of the shell.
Other than the higher centre of gravity due to the sunroof framework there will not be any differences noticed IMO.

If you retain the glass sunroof just remove the glass and replace with polycarb.
However if your looking at competing in a race series there maybe complications there with a sunroof model car.

i have mate.

cage was fabricated by Danny B.

but at some point (ideally next winter) the roof will be coming off anyway for either a non-sunroof item or ideally a carbon replacement.

and of course its going to be worth it.

my 909 shell has a full rollcage and a sunroof...gen 909 shell too so dont know what happened there....doesnt look to have been changed in the past either...

I'm looking to go for a normal mk5 skin or a composite one if funds allow.

Cheers
Dan

P.S. Kelv have you seen any roof skins around for the escos in carbon? If so where...cheers

all the replacement 3dr shells made in 1989 whether they were sunroof or non sunroof were 909 numbered which probably explains it

they will yeah.

but with parts like that, someone needs to stump up the price for the mould, or put in a minimum order of 5 (ish)

id be happy to pay for the price of 5 if i knew i could sell most of them on, or even pay for the mould costs if id get a percentage return from each roof that was then made/sold.

Dan, would you be like me and want a complete replacement roof or a roof skin that bonds over the top like Dave's (Twins)

Kelv,
Ideally if I was to go to the trouble of a carbon roof it's have to be a full roof not just a skin...but thats dependant on price tbh.

I'm not fussy about it being bling carbon either; kevlar mix will do as it'll get painted on my car.

Cheers
Dan
