Default Zetec Clutchs & Conversion Questions.....

Hi, Are the clutchs the same on the 1.6 Zetec the same as the 2.0 zetec???

Also i've just brought a 2.0 mondeo to put the engine into my mrs's car. do i just need the engine, box, loom and ecu?? Any tips on doing the conversion?? Its going into a Mk6 Escort.

thanks,

Craig

when i done a 2.0 from a 1.6 into a fiesta i used flywheel, same clutch as what was in fiesta-but new, the oil pick up and sump from the escort would be needed. you may have to be carefull with pats as on the fiesta you need certain name ecu's either deep, desk or dewy i believe.

use the 1.6 flywheel, sump/pick up, water pump, and i use the oil pump too.

the ECU will need to be a DEEP, DALE, DESK or DEWY one IIRC, and will need to move a few wires about to take care of the pats.

Sorry to sound thick but what is pats??
Also your saying i can only use a certain ecu, will the letters be printed on the mondeo ecu??

Matt, Too right, gunna rip it out the mondeo asap, just gotta decide if i should just wack it in now or build it up as a turbo motor first. I think forced induction is the way forward though!!

Craig.

if im correct craig the gear box in the mondeo is an mtx75 which i was told will fit in the escort as it already has mounts for it. as for the loom and ecu if you buy an aftermarket ecu i.e megasquirt it capable of running turbo and n/a so put the engine in as it is for now save up for pistons and turbo ect put all the bits on then you dont have to worry about the management as you allready have it in the car.

the mondeo box will bolt to the engine but wont bolt into the bay, f you want to use the mtx75 box then take it from an RS2000. but you'll need subframe, hubs and shafts as well.

the ECU codes are printed onto the plug part of the ECU.

What about the escort gearbox, will that bolt to the 2.0 enigne???

Might look into getting the Megasquirt Set up then. Nearly finished spending on my car for this year so about time i started spending some on hers now!!

if its going into a mk5 or mk6 escort then yes it will go onto the original box but i believe that you will need to use the 1.6 flywheel and clutch ( i could be wrong though)
if you want to use a rs2k box you will need a rs2k flywheel and clutch as the splines are larger on the rs2k item, also the flywheel may not have a trigger pick for the crank sensor, i know they have holes in em but not 100% sure if it will work a zetec as the rs engine has the crank sensor pick up from a ring inside the sump on the crank as apposed to outside on the flywheel.

and PATS stands for passive anti theft system, its ford own imobiliser, you will struggle to find wiring diagrams for it but i believe escortevolution have a guide on whihc wires to swap over. and there are two types of pats, internal and external (one is in ecu itself one is not) and ecu code is printed on a sticker on the plastic plug onto the ecu

No need to use an RS2000 flywheel, just use a 2L Mondeo one - easy to get hold of! And probably came with the 2L engine in the first place!
