Mmmmm piston slap....

bet she rattles for about 2 secs when you start it from cold....

I would say its time for a new bottom end mate, I can't see it lasting too long TBH

There will be some movement of the pistions on the bores. Free float on the piston rings, manufacturing tolerances and the cold clearances as well. I don't know how much movement is acceptable but there will be some.

I havnt noticed any piston slap from cold or any other noises. TBH its been fine but as Ive got the head off I thought Id check a few things. Its a relatively newish bottom end, only done about 15000 on a rebore and new pistons etc... Just thought I'd check anyway !

It depends on the pistons you have fitted...

some need more clearance than others!

how do I get the clearance figure as I havnt a clue who manufactured the pistons, it was all done by the previous owner. All it says on top of the pistons is AE +0.5 and then loads of numbers afterwards. Theres no receipt for them either. In theory it should be ok as it was running sweet before with no sound or anything from them.
