need to do disc and pads on my friends porsche boxster. Had a quick look on the net at prices and obviously pattern parts are alot cheaper than genuine Porsche parts
is it really worth paying the extra for the Porsche parts or are the pattern stuff pretty good these days? - the pattern stuff seems to be almost half the price in comparison
the car is out of warrenty so no issues as far as that's concerned, just want people opinions
he hardly drives the thing and never drives it in anger
Cheers, Matt

I would only ever use Porsche discs, as the holes are CAST into the discs and not drilled, so last MUCH longer than drilled aftermarket discs. Pads I can do and even list the 204bhp model on my website
.
Why does it need discs if it has not been used in anger?

to be fair havent checked it myself, i suspect it will only need pads, but worst case it may need discs
its only done 40k so cant see how the discs can be worn that much

I'd get all the parts from Jasmine. VERY good and very cheap. GENUINE Porsche parts only.

Hi mate
I agree with Mike - the point made about the holes is really important - the only thing I would say is that Alcons have a good rep but they are for performance, and are quite expensive for discs I believe.
So far I have only ever used OEM, but not needed to change for a while.
Whilst it is true that Textar make the oem pads, I am not sure that it follows that the compound is identical for teh pattern parts - I may be wrong, but when I used pattern on my M5 I noted that they lasted nothing like as long as the OEM BMW items (also made by textar). So dont take it as read that the same make means same compound.
I would say again - I could be wrong!
