lucky man martin gumball
not knocking you mate, but there must be hundreds of threads about this over the years on here.
and it is a few years out of date now!
but to add, yes Martin was extremely lucky, and even more so was Lee to still be here with us today

interesting the way the car just shot across the road did something brake causing the crash
rear diff rear suspension ?

Looks like driver error to me, he runs the car without the rear spoiler and has less downforce on the rear wheels and is properly going on the dirtiest part of the road and turns the car in way to quickly, the car looses traction at the rear wheels due to a combination of dirty road and to little downforce. If he had driven the car in a straighter line and slowly sliding the car right just by a few degrees he would probably not loose it as he did....IMHO..

looked to me like the 2 nearside wheels were on the less grippy part of the road with sand on...
either way martin and porkie lived to tell the tale and a better car evolved..

Both bloody lucky. And it still sends shivers down my spine whenever i see this video!
Lee still suffers badly with his back, but after breaking it i guess that is to be expected!
At least they are both alive!

The first picture is a nano second before the back end does the wild thing..

Possibility could be when he was driving on the dirt something he drove over went through the tyre & blew it out ??
As the 2nd pic does show the car leaning towards the passenger side

Take what you see on youpube as gospel, add that to your own personal experiance of never driving at such speeds, in such cars, on such roads etc and make up your own theory from that, I reckon it will be far far more exciting than the truth

As said I have looked at my video's frame by frame and I have more and more opposite lock applied in each shot, it didn't help one bit though
IIRC Lee was reaching into the back to get a camera so really it happerned at a properly bad time.
You can cleary see Mart wound on more and more opposite lock.
Roll cages are a really really good idea.

You'll never know the cause.
"Driver error" of course is going to be a factor to most people, in that it was an error to put two wheels off the tarmac at that speed, but at the end of the day, thats what happens when the adrenalin is flowing, you make a quick decision, and sometimes they are good ones and sometimes they are bad ones.
Id personally class it as simply bad luck, its the sort of thing that happens to us all from time to time when we are driving on or near the limit.

Jus be thankful you know EXCATELY what your doin when it comes to buildin a safe car !!

Youve got it wrong Gareth, you will never be a proper investigator,

I didn't even have a seatbelt on! I flew out on the car after a few rolls and the car went over the top and crushed me breaking my back... luckily it squashed me into some soft mud or I would have been dead.
I will NEVER know how we survived that... there were trees and buildings and rocks along that road! If we hit any of them at speed, it would have been all over! By CHANCE we managed to find a nice soft field to crash in.
MORE importantly we missed that dude on the quad bike. I would never have forgiven myself if an innocent local had got hurt.
My back still hurts alot and I lost ALOT of money but overall I am INCREDIBLY lucky!
and I don't blame Martin one bit. We were as responsible as each other for the crash!
Lucky escape really, remember following the Gumball when it happened and hearing about it via m5board.
Either of you read The Driver by Alex Roy (Team Polizei) yet? Says Martoon is an idiot basically

we were doing NOTHING wrong that night... he was driving like a CUNT. not using his mirrors and KEPT almost causing us to crash...
He seemed to think his M5 was the fastest thing EVER....
